Thornton Died On Thursday Last Funeral Services Were Held Sunday Mrs. Maria E. Thornton, one of the oldest residents of Lawsonia, died at her home in that section on Thursday last from the infirmities of age. She was ninety years of age. Mrs. Thornton was the widow of the late James E. Thornton, and was a member of an old and prominent Somerset family. She was known as a good Christian woman, and leaves a host of friends to mourn her death. The deceased is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Upshur Milbourne, Mrs. Clara Sterling, Mrs. Delaware Tyler, all of Crisfield, and Mrs. Emma Hoskins, of Chester, Pa., and two sons, James H. Thornton, of Crisfield, and Fred Thornton, of Atlantic City, N.J. Funeral services were held from the home of her daughter, Mrs. Upshur Milbourne, on Sunday afternoon conducted by the Rev. J.T. Rowlenson, pastor of Asbury M.E. Church. Interment was in Asbury cemetery. The Crisfield Times, Crisfield, Maryland, Friday, July 14, 1933, p. 5∼ Maria Elizabeth Thornton was the daughter of William Sterling and Sallie Nelson.
