Here she was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church by Rev. H. Ernst. Soon after she, with her parents, came to Adams county (sic), Nebraska. On February 7, 1884 she was united in marriage to Christ Berndt by Rev. Ernst Flach. They established a comfortable home 3 miles southeast of Kenesaw, reared a large family and always were highly respected by their friends and neighbors. After the death of her husband on December 16, 1924, Mrs Berndt found pleasure in visiting her children. In the last months she made her home with Mrs. Karl Aufdenkamp, who, being assisted by her sisters, took tender care of Mother in her ailment. Mother Berndt was of a kind disposition, always thinking of the welfare of others, never complaining in her prolonged sickness, patiently bearing her troubles knowing that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared on the glory which shall be revealed to us. On June 30, 1934, at 4:10 p .m. Mrs. Berndt calmly fell asleep in Jesus, having reached the age of 71 years, and 20 days. She is survived by her nine children: Mr. and Mrs. Albert Berndt, of Chicago, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. William Berndt of Genoa, Colo.; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Berndt of Kenesaw; Mr. and Mrs. Karl Aufdenkamp of Kenesaw; Mr. and Mrs. Gust Herman of Juniata: Mr. and Mrs. Albert Schroder of Doniphan; Mr. and Mrs. Elwin Nienhueser, of Holstein; Mr. and Mrs. Walter Schukei, of Holstein; Mr. and Mrs. Harry Schroder of Doniphan and 32 grand-children and one brother, Peter C Einspahr, and a host of friends and neighbors. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. A. W. Wilk in Zion Lutheran Church in Wanda, township (sic), July 3, 1934 and her earthly remains were laid to rest beside her husband in the Zion cemetery (sic).
