She was born on February 4, 1906 in Frank , Russia to John and Mabel (Frick) Gettmann. She was a 1924 graduate of Hastings High School in Hastings , NE. and later attended Hastings Business College . She and John G. Bauer Sr. were married on June 26, 1927 in Hastings, NE. and moved to Beatrice, NE.... Read More	Funeral Service: 10:00 A.M. Friday, November 25, 2005 at the Centenary United Methodist Church in Beatrice, NE. Marie B. Bauer, 99 years of age, of Beatrice, NE. passed away at the Beatrice Manor Care Center in Beatrice, NE. Sunday morning, November 20, 2005. She was born on February 4, 1906 in Frank , Russia to John and Mabel (Frick) Gettmann. She was a 1924 graduate of Hastings High School in Hastings , NE. and later attended Hastings Business College . She and John G. Bauer Sr. were married on June 26, 1927 in Hastings, NE. and moved to Beatrice, NE. in 1936 where she and her husband owned and operated the Bauer Shoe Store in Beatrice, NE. until 2002. She is a member of the Centenary United Methodist Church in Beatrice, NE. (67 years) and had been a Sunday school teacher, organist and choir member. She was a charter member of the United Methodist Women and has served on it's chairperson and had been a member of various committees. She was also a charter member of the Women's Society of Christian Service. Her father had done much of the initial work inside of the Centenary United Methodist Church in Beatrice , NE. She was currently a member and charter member and past president of the of the Soroptomist Club and a member and charter member of the Daughter of the Nile groups in Beatrice , NE. She was a past member and chairperson of the March of Dimes; past committee member of the Community Chest; former member of the B.P.O.E. Does; Charter member and past president (2 years) of the Women's Division of the Beatrice Chamber of Commerce and was a longtime member of the Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors and took tickets for many years and the annual Farmer/Businessmen's Barbeque, and served on the Downtown Improvement Association and received the Outstanding Women's Division member in 1973; past member of the American Legion Auxiliary; past member and past chairman of the Salvation Army Advisory Board and had chaired the Tree of Life campaign several times; past member and president of the Beatrice Women's Club; past member of the Beatrice Community Hospital Guild and Eastern Star; served on the Mayor's Improvement Committee and on the Beatrice Better Improvement Committee; ; lifetime member of the Beatrice Library Foundation; past member and chairman of the Beatrice Housing Authority; past member of the Beatrice Clean City board; past member and president of the Gage County Women's Club; helped re-organize and served as president and publicity chairman (15 years) of the Gage County American Cancer Society and received their Nebraska Outstanding Volunteer Award for Gage County in 1964 from the Nebraska Division of the American Cancer Society; past member and president of the Nebraska Federated Women's Club. She received the Service to Mankind Award from the Beatrice Sertoma and Sunrise Sertoma Clubs in 1986; she and her husband were awarded the 1987 Beatrice Chamber of Commerce Ambassador of the Year Award and were named as the Grand Marshall of the 1997 Homestead Days Parade, and she received the Chamber of Commerce Outstanding Women Award in 1973 and the Salute To Women volunteer award from the Women's Division of the Chamber in 1978. She enjoyed her work in retail, working with and meeting people, reading, and visiting friends in the hospital or nursing homes on Sunday afternoons. Survivors include 2 sons; John A. Bauer and his wife Fran of Beatrice, NE. and James W. Bauer and his wife Pauline of Beatrice; grandchildren Gerald Bauer and his wife LuAnn, Steven Bauer and his wife Renee, Mark T. Bauer and his wife Toni, Leticia Germer and her husband Sam, Cynthia Hansen and her husband Steve, Dr. Tim Bauer and his wife Jennifer; and 11 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents John K. and Mabel (Frick) Gettmann; husband John G. Bauer Sr. (10-5-2001); 1 infant great grandson; daughter in law Jackie Bauer; and 6 brothers. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday, November 25, 2005 at the Centenary United Methodist Church in Beatrice, NE. with Reverend Kelly Karges officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen Home Cemetery , Beatrice , NE. The body will lie in state Wednesday from 12-9:00 P.M. and Thursday from 4-9:00 P.M. at the Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel in Beatrice, NE. and at the church one hour preceding the service on Friday. A family prayer service will be held at 9:45 A.M. Friday at the church. A memorial has been established to the church, Soroptomist, or the Salvation Army with Leo and Brandy Kelly in charge. Messages of condolence may be sent to [email protected] They will be forwarded to the family. The Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel, www. griffithshovendick.com, is in charge of the services.
