Was Mother of Five Children, All Living and Residents of This County Mrs. Frank Sevcik, 74. a resident of Tama county almost since childhood, died at her home in south Traer last Friday morning. Although she had not been well for several months, Mrs. Sevcik became seriously ill only five or six days before, after suffering a cerebral hemorrhage. She was unconscious for nearly forty-eight hours preceding her death. The decedent, whose maiden name was Mary Dolezal, was born in Bohemia and came to America alone as a girl. She was first employed in a boarding house in Belle Plaine. At harvest time she worked in the fields, doing a man’s work at a time when harvesting was extremely laborious, bundles being tied by hand. In July 1877, fifty-one years ago, she married Frank Sevcik, who came to Tama county with his parents as a child and was reared on a farm near Vining. The couple started farming near Vining, later moving to Carroll township, where they accumulated large land holdings. They were among the original members of the St. Vaclav church, west of Clutier. After farming nearly fifty years. Mr. and Mrs. Sevcik retired in September 1924, and moved to Traer, purchasing the Currell property on Eighth street. Five children were born to the couple and all are living. They are Rudolph and Joseph both of Carroll township; Mrs. Louis Halupnik, north of Traer; Mrs. J. C. Halupnik, of Crystal township; and Mrs. Frank Novotny Sr., north of Traer. There are twenty-eight grandchildren. One sister, living in Europe, also survives. The golden wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Sevcik was celebrated July 3, 1927, at the home of Mrs. Fran k Novotny, and more than forty relatives were present for the occasion. The funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Father Thomas Vopatek at the home at 8:30 a. m. Monday and at St. Vaclav church at 10 a. m. Burial was in St. Vaclav cemetery.
