Description	:	Stratford Courier January 22, 2000 MARIE E. MARTENS STRATFORD - Marie E. Martens, 95, formerly of Arizona, died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2000, at the Stratford Care Center. Services will be 1:30 p.m. today at the Stratford Baptist Church wit the Rev. David Fernlund officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, north of Stratford. Visitation will be from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the Stark-Welin Funeral Home, Stratford, at which time the casket will be taken to the church. Visitation will continue until the time of services at the church. Survivors include sons Bruce Martens, Stratford, and Stuart Martens, Salida, Colo.; and sister Mabel Bergman, Stratford.... She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence L. and Agnes Johnson Carlson, and brothers Leonard and Wayne Carlson. Marie E. Carlson was born Dec. 22, 1904, near Stratford. She was a graduate of Stratford High School, attended the University of Northern Iowa and graduated from Bethel College in St. Paul. She married Ivan P. Martens in 1927. She taught rural schools in Stratford for nine years and then moved to Arizona where she was a secretary/bookkeeper for a lumber company for many years. In 1993, she moved from Arizona to Stratford. Following a stroke in 1995, she moved to the Evangelical Free Church Home and later to the Ogden Manor. She had been a resident at the Stratford Care Center for the past week. She was a member of the Stratford Baptist Church.
