She received her education in the Lincoln and Chester public schools. She was united in marriage to Walter Arthur Poppe on September 7, 1933, and to this union 10 children were born: Floyd, LaVerne, Arlene, Maxine, Lenetta, Phyllis, Marvin, Melvin, Richard and Robert. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Walter A. Poppe, two children, LaVern and Lenetta, one brother, William Ahlschwede and one sister, Ruth Henney. She is survived by three daughters: Mrs. Arlene Bohling and husband Loren, rural Chester, Mrs. Maxine Watkins and husband Lyle, Chester, and Mrs. Phyllis Harms and husband, Larry, Lincoln; five sons - Floyd Poppe, Byron, Marvin Poppe and wife Joyce, Belleville, Melvin Poppe and wife Lorie, Sutton, Richard Poppe and wife Vicki, Byron, Robert Poppe and wife Nancy, of Shelby, NE; one sister, Martha Ahrens, Fairbury; one sister-in-law, Joan Ahlschwede, Lakeland, FL; 19 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 7 step-grandchildren and 2 step-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Services were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, June 13 at St. John Lutheran Church, Chester, conducted by Pastor William Larsen. Organist was Mrs. Alvin Poppe and soloist, Kenneth Hoge. Casketbearers were Marvin Harmes, Steven Poppe, Jay Jensen, Dan Poppe, David Dutton and William Riggs. Interment was made in St. John Lutheran Cemetery, rural Chester.
