Description	:	Walter A. Poppe, son of P.F. Poppe and Dorothea Sorge Poppe, was born in Marshalltown, Iowa on June 16, 1902. He was baptized in St. John Lutheran Church, Chester, Nebr. He received his education in St. John Lutheran School and was confirmed in the Lutheran Church in 1918. He was united in marriage to Marie Ehlers on Sept. 7, 1933. Their marriage was blessed with ten children. A son, Laverne Walter, and a daughter, Lenetta, preceded Mr. Poppe in death. He received his education in St. John Lutheran School and was confirmed in the Lutheran Church in 1918. He was united in marriage to Marie Ehlers on Sept. 7, 1933. Their marriage was blessed with ten children. A son, Laverne Walter, and a daughter, Lenetta, preceded Mr. Poppe in death. Surviving are his wife; his sons, Floyd, Marvin, Melvin, Richard and Robert; his daughters, Arlene (Mrs. Loren Bohling), Maxine (Mrs. Lyle Watkins), and Phyllis; granddaughters, Denise and Diane Bohling; his brothers, Rudolph and Fred Poppe and Clarence Mahan; and his sisters, Mrs. Henry Freitag, Ft. Morgan, Colo., and Mrs. Henry Vorderstrasse in the state of Washington. Mr. Poppe passed away Sunday morning, July 23, 1961 at 10:35. He was at the Lutheran Hospital in Hebron where he had been a patient since last Wednesday. He had attained the age of 59 years, one month and seven days. The funeral service was conducted Wednesday morning, July 26, at St. John Lutheran Church, the Rev. Donald Patterson officiating. W.C. Firhaber accompanied Karen Firnhaber and Norma Flathman (sic) who sang. The casket bearers were Charles Kuhlmann, LaVern Bohling, Leonard Kuhlmann, Frank Larkins, Ralph Barnes and Maurice Mitchell. Interment was made in St. John Lutheran cemetery (sic). Bachelor-Faulkner-Dart Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.
