Marie Maxine Lanning was born June 26, 1913, in Iowa, the daughter of Simon and Pauline (Frederickson) Pelroy. She graduated from the eighth grade in Iowa. She married Leo Lanning Sr. on April 14, 1930, in Yankton, S.D. He died September 8, 1980. She worked as a waitress at an Elk Point restaurant. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and Altar Society. Survivors include two daughters-in-law, Winna Mary Lanning and Bonnie Lanning, both of Elk Point; three grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; twelve great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and two sisters-in-law, Ann Verzani of Yuma, TN, and Eleanor Pelroy of Aurora, Colo. She was preceded in death by her parents, Simon and Pauline (Frederickson) Pelroy; her husband, Leo Lanning Sr.; three sons, Arnold in infancy, Leo Lanning Jr., and Paul Lanning; a brother, Simon "CY" Pelroy; a sister, Darlene Erickson. Memorials may be directed to St. Joseph's Catholic Church and/or Hospice of Siouxland. Visitation: 6 to 7 p.m., Friday, March 28, 2008 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Elk Point with a wake service at 7 p.m. Service: 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 29, 2008 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Elk Point. Cemetery: Burial will be in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Elk Point.
