CUNNINGHAM DIED THURSDAY Many friends in this city were shocked this morning to learn of the death of Mrs. Marietta CUNNINGHAM which occured suddenly last night about eleven o'clock at her home on South Main street. Yesterday afternoon about four o'clock she was stricken with an attack of paralysis and death came a few hours after the attack. Mrs. CUNNINGHAM, while of quiet and home loving disposition, was a woman of rare intellectual ability and an excellent conversationalist. She had the faculty of making friends and keeping them and was one of the most widely known women in Fairfield. Her death will be deeply regretted by an unusually large circle of friends. Marietta SHOEMAKER-CUNNINGHAM was born in Monmouth, Ill., November 27, 1838. On September 12th 1857 she was united in marriage to Phiny F. CUNNINGHAM (sic. Pliny Fisk CUNNINGHAM) and to them were born four children. The only son died in his twentieth year. The couple spent nearly forty years in Centerville and 1899 moved to Fairfield. Mr. CUNNINGHAM died on Mary 4, 1900. Three daughters are left to mourn the death of their mother. They are Mrs. Charles D LEGGETT (sic. Beatrice) and Miss May CUNNINGHAM (sic. Ida May CUNNINGHAM) of this city, and Mrs. D.B. MOSS of Chicago. Mrs. CUNNINGHAM was a faithful member of the Presbyterian church and was always interested in the work in all the departments of the organization. The funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the home. Rev. Mont R. Sawyers of Davenport will assist Rev. W.W. Montgomery in the service. The interrment will take place in Evergreen cemetery. -------- Note: A grandson, John R Moss is also buried in this plot. The burial location of his parents is not yet known to this contributor. Information about their burial location would be appreciated.
