Marilyn is survived by her son Mike (Lori) Heim of St. Joseph, MO; 6 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brother Edward Hendrickson of Okoboji; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her first husband Raymond Heim; second husband L.G. "Tex" Turner; daughter Donna Bergerson; parents, Haren and Louise (Anderson) Hendrickson; and brothers, Ronald and Warren Hendrickson. Marilyn K. Hendrickson was born January 4, 1929 at Callender, Iowa. She graduated from Somers High School, with the Class of 1947. She then attended Dana College in Blair, Nebraska. On April 16, 1950 she was united in marriage to Raymond Heim. The couple made their home in Somers and then moved to Rockwell City in 1966. Marilyn worked at Somers Savings Bank for 7 years and then the Calhoun County Reminder. Raymond passed away in 1973. On April 16, 1977 she married L.G. "Tex" Turner and the couple made their home in Rockwell City. Marilyn taught piano and organ lessons for many years. Tex passed away in 2005. Marilyn was a faithful member of Fulton Lutheran Church, where she played organ for many years and was active in organizing the quilting projects. ----------------------------------------------------------- Below is a preliminary Obituary written by Brother Ed Hendrickson Sr age 87 on April 5 2018 --------------- MARILYN JOYCE HENDRICKSON, HEIM, TURNER, ROCKWELL CITY, IOWA Marilyn died at 1:35 pm on April 4, 2018 AT SUNNY KNOLL CARE CENTER, ROCKWELL CITY, IOWA. MARIYLN WAS BORN JANUARY 4, 1929 TO HAREN AND LOUISE HENDRICKSON ON THE FARM HOME 3 MILES NORTH OF SLIFER, IOWA. SHE GRADUATED FROM SOMERS HIGH SCHOOL IN 1947 AND MARRIED RAYMOND (RED) HEIM IN 195?. RED DIED IN 1973 AND SHE MARRIED LG "TEX" TURNER IN 19??. TEX DIED IN 2005. MARILYN WAS A SELF TAUGHT MUSICIAN AND STARTED PLAYING THE PUMP ORGAN IN THE DANISH LUTHERAN CHURCH AT 12 YEARS OLD AND THEN PLAYED THE ORGAN IN FULTON LUTHERAN CHURCH, ROELYN, IOWA FOR MANY YEARS. SHE PLAYED 4 YEARS ON THE SOMERS GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM AND WAS A CHEER LEADER 4 YEARS IN HIGH SCHOOL. SHE ENJOYED MAKING QUILTS FOR HER GRAND-KIDS. Written by brother Ed Hendrickson Sr. age 87 at the time ------------------------------------------------------- My sister Marilyn Marilyn was born January 4th, 1929, she was two years older than me. A depression baby. Our brother Ronald died in 1930 at three so I never knew him. We do have some pictures of Marilyn and Ronald. His first cousin Harris died within two weeks of Ronald. A bad flu epidemic. She was Active in the 4-H for many years and our mother Louise was a 4-H leader for many years. Marilyn started playing the pump organ in the Danish Lutheran church when she was 12 she took a few lessons from Benie Jespersen and her Aunt Gertrude but was basically self taught. She would play the piano for hours, I would sing and our dog would sit outside the screen door and howl. She told me I sounded better than the dog. She taught me hundreds of songs. I was more interested in baseball. We would play monopoly for days at a time. We would set up the monopoly board on the card table and leave it going until one of us won or got tired of playing or we would play checkers with our Dad. Dad loved to play checkers and was very good at it, we couldn't beat him. Every Friday nite the Hanson brothers would open The Roland Township Club house to roller skating to kids of all ages. It was community building and was used for all local meetings, etc. 1936 was a terribly hot summer and a worse winter. It was so hot we would sleep outside. I have often wondered about the bugs. And then the winter came and we were snowed in for over a month and it took 20 men to shovel the snow off the gravel road past our farm so the Caterpillar could get through. The Rock Island train was stuck in the snow somewhere. Marilyn and I could sled off the barn roof. The cows had to stay in the barn because the fences were buried under the snow. It was fun because we could take the bobsled and go any direction. The barn was warmer than the house. We would listen to the battery radio as we had no electricity, we would get off the school bus and listen to THE THIN MAN, CAPTAIN MIDNIGHT, THE SHADOW KNOWS AND OH HENRY. There were others but can't remember. The last day of school was always a great day and we could ride our bikes to school. The front tire on her bike blew out so I took the wheel off, draped it over the back wheel on my bike and made a bicycle built for two. We rode together for a long time as it was fun and certainly unusual. I got a new Cushman motor scooter when I was 13 and one day I was changing the oil, so had drained the oil. It was just sitting there in the yard with no oil and she drove it to see the neighbor, but it still ran OK after that so she didn't hurt it. Sofus Hanson hooked us up to REA in 1941 (Rural Electric Association) and it was wonderful as we didn't have to haul water to the cows anymore as we had an automatic watering system in the barn We could read books at nite She was active in athletics and played basketball and was a cheerleader four years in high school. Marilyn loved to make quilts and made them for all her grandkids, kids, nieces and nephews including me. She was a Chicago Cubs fan and loved baseball. She would watch every game when she could. We finally got TV in 1951. But Marilyn and I were both out of high school, she married Red Heim in 1951. I remember they took the Studebaker pick up on there honeymoon and Red bragged to me that when they bought gas they received a truck discount. I was in the Army and came home on furlough. There was no one home and her car was in the garage but it was wrecked. She had driven in the ditch and rolled it but was not hurt. But I was a wreck trying to find everyone A wonderful person and everyone loved her. Some of the kids wrote a bit about here. Ed Jr said she spit polished his face before every church service and Blake said when she called she would say Blaakye. My son Ed talked her into playing the piano in the nursing home. She would call me every morning at 7 and the phone would ring when we were in California at 5 AM. But it was wonderful to hear she was OK. One morning I didn't hear from her and couldn't get her on the phone so I drove to Rockwell City from Okoboji and found out she hadn't charged it. Marilyn and I grew up together and she was like a second mother being two years older. A wonderful sister and we will be telling stories about her forever. She had a wonderful smile, I teased her all the time and I think she enjoyed it. We will miss you Marilyn and thanks for being a wonderful sister. We will cherish your memories forever.
