Description	:	Marion B. Lednum "Hunky" sailed away Wednesday Nov. 18, 2009. He was 83. Born July 31, 1926, on Tilghman Island, he was the son of the late Edgar Lednum and Mary Alice Ferguson Lednum. Hunky spent his early childhood and teens helping his family through the Great Depression, doing everything from collecting driftwood for heat to crabbing, fishing and tonging oysters. Born July 31, 1926, on Tilghman Island, he was the son of the late Edgar Lednum and Mary Alice Ferguson Lednum. Hunky spent his early childhood and teens helping his family through the Great Depression, doing everything from collecting driftwood for heat to crabbing, fishing and tonging oysters. At age 17, he joined the Army to serve in World War II, Army Division and was decorated with the Medal of Good Conduct, Asiatic Pacific Theatre Ribbon, Army Occupation Medal (Japan) and the World War II Victory Ribbon. Hunky returned home and went back to working on the Bay. Extremely knowledgeable of every creek and river, he made a good living for his family and every man who ever worked for him. For those who knew him, if he said, "Let's go look at it," they knew they were in for a long, long day on the boat. His knowledge knew no end, for there wasn't anything he couldn't fix for anyone. He spent many nights and weekends helping rebuild boats or homes for family and friends, always as a gift, never wanting anything in return. In 1975, he built his cherished boat, Linda Dawn, along with boat builder Sam McQuay. Proud of her mahogany and teak construction and 45 by 13 size, he used her to break ice in the Narrows and harbors to assure every waterman could make a day's work. His big smile and a "little ornery" disposition will be sorely missed by all who knew him. He is survived by four daughters, Dawn A. Lednum and her partner, Mimi Holt of Claiborne, Linda L. Spurry and her partner, Tim McGuire of Kennedyville, Marian "Snooks" Harrison and her husband, Jimmy of Wittman, and Sandra V. Martin of Cordova; two sons, Charles A. Lowery and his partner, Sharon of Tunis Mills, and Aldon Lednum and his wife, Kim, of Tilghman; one brother, Vernon Lednum of McDaniel; 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and extended family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Agnes Cherbonnier Lednum, in 1988; three sons, Wayne Lednum, Daniel Lednum and Joseph Lowery; five brothers; and two sisters. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the Hospice Foundation, nurses Donna Lyons, Roxy, and special friend, LuAnn Kramer. Services were held Nov. 21, at the Tilghman Methodist Church. Burial was at Spring Hill Cemetery, Easton. In memory of Hunky, contributions may be sent to the Tilghman Waterman Museum, P.O. Box 33, Tilghman, MD 21671. Arrangements by R. Carroll Hurley Funeral Home PC, St. Michaels.
