Son of John M. Daniels and Martha Jane Carmichael OBITUARY THE CHARITON HERALD-PATRIOT Chariton, Iowa Thursday, January 5, 1939 M. E. DANIELS Marion E. Daniels, oldest son of J. M. and Martha (Carmichael) Daniels, was born near Norwood, Iowa, on Dec. 20, 1876, and departed from this life Dec. 15, 1938, at his home in Milo, Iowa. He had spent his entire life in Iowa with the exception of 18 months on a claim near Cottonwood, S. Dak. He took his pharmaceutical course while working with Mr. Ralston in Lacona and Mr. Husted in Indianola. In Nov. 1908, he went to Milo and took charge of the Husted drug store, later became owner and continued in the drug business until his health failed almost two years ago. On May 9, 1909, at Orient, Iowa, in the home of Mr. and Mrs. A. S. Lynn, he was united in marriage to Theora L. Young, who has so faithfully cared for him during his failing health and last illness. In 1910, under the ministry of Rev. C. S. Fair, he united with the Christian Union church at Belmont. Later, he transferred his membership to Milo Christian Union church, becoming a charter member and served in an efficient way on the building committee. For a number of year he was the teacher of a large class in the Sunday school. He was a member of the Milan Lodge A.F. & A.M. and was Worshipful Master for some time. His brethren in the lodge had charge and conducted the services at the cemetery. He was also a charter member of Bethel Chapter O.E.S. He served as the mayor of the town of Milo for one term. Besides his wife, he leaves one brother, Tom Daniels, a sister, Mrs. Josephine Mumford and her husband, Elmer, all of Norwood, besides other relatives and friends. His father and mother preceded him in death several years ago. Funeral services were conducted from the Christian Union church in Milo by the pastor, Rev. C. C. Donaghue. Singing by Mr. Killen and Homer Hornaday, of Indianola, Chas. Myers, of Lacona, and C. C. Donaghue, of Milo, with Mrs. Eileen Oldaker at the piano. A short service was held in the M. E. church at Norwood, scripture reading and prayer by Rev. C. C. Donaghue, songs by a male quartet, consisting of Maurice Keeny, T. D. Ashby, Roy Gray and Geo. Ashby. Burial was made in the Norwood cemetery and was conducted by his Masonic brethren in charge of L. E. Webber, of Auburn Lodge No. 592. Obituary courtesy of Charles M. Wright
