Those left to honor Marion's memory inlcude his wife, Laura Gene McCumber of Newton; two sisters-in-law, Irene McCumber of Newton and Hilda McCumber of Newton; his brother-in-law, Paul Kolash of Lakota, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Matson and Verna Ezra (Lutz) McCumber; three sisters: Mary Brue, Ruby Dow, and Voncille Meador; and three brothers: Frank McCumber, Jr., Fredrick McCumber, Sr., and Norman McCumber. At the age of 75, Marion received his GED; he also attended DMACC, taking classes in math, Spanish, and conservation. He worked as a machinist for the Parsons Company for 30 years and also farmed in Marion County. Marion was a was a member of the Moose Lodge and First Lutheran Church, and was a longtime member of the Izaak Walton League. As a member of the Izaak Walton League, his concern was conservation and leaving a clean environment of soil, air and preservation of trees for the next generation. He left cover for the habitat on his farm so wild animals would have protection and planted extra corn for the deer to eat. He also was one of many people to sponsor fishing derbies at the Ike's. He and Laura Gene provided many students in the community the opportunity to attend college. They also supported their nieces and nephews in their academic and athletic activities. Marion also enjoyed gardening, attending the races at Knoxville and going to the Iowa Speedway. In lieu of flowers, memorials to First Lutheran Church or the Izaak Walton League may be left at the funeral home.
