Ethel was born to Frank and Rose (Herman) McKenzie on February 20, 1920 at her parental home south of St. Charles, South Dakota. She attended school south of Bonesteel through the 8th grade. Read More	From Clausen Funeral Home Web Site: Marjorie Ethel Hanson, known to all as Ethel, passed away October 2, 2005 at the Winner Regional Healthcare Center at the age of 85 years. Ethel was born to Frank and Rose (Herman) McKenzie on February 20, 1920 at her parental home south of St. Charles, South Dakota. She attended school south of Bonesteel through the 8th grade. She then attended boarding school in Mission for a brief time before quitting school to stay at home and take care of her ailing mother and siblings. Ethel spent most of her life in the Herrick and St. Charles area, except for the two years when she enlisted in the Women's Army Corp, where she served in California. She was baptized and confirmed at All Saints Episcopal Church in rural Herrick. On June 26, 1948 she married Orval Hanson and they made their home in rural Herrick. Ethel was a member of the Herrick American Legion Auxiliary and the Burke VFW Auxiliary. She served on the Johnson-O'Malley program at the Bonesteel School for many years. She was also the secretary/treasurer for Milk's Camp Community for several years. She served on the RST Heifer Project International board in the 1970's. She enjoyed gardening, especially her flowers, sewing and she loved birds. She was always busy cooking and caring for her family. In her later years she spent a lot of time reading and always had a book in front of her. Ethel leaves to mourn her four children: Twila (Skip) Emme, Dee (Bob) Thrall, Neil (Judy) Hanson, and Marla ( Charlie) Bull Bear; twelve grandchildren: one special grandson Rodney Hanson, Rob Marshall, Denise Marshall, Jason Emme, Cary and Chris Thrall; Curtis and Ashley Hanson; Megan, Mitch, Nate and Michael Bull Bear; three great-grandchildren: Zach Marshall, Danika and Evan Ulrich; her sisters: Berniece Tietgen, Darlene Ellston, Jeannie Lucht, Neomi Schepp and Viola Warner; one brother, Carl as well as a host of nieces, nephews and family. Ethel was preceded in death by her husband, Orval; her parents, Frank and Rose; brothers: Patrick, Richard and Rueben; and one niece and one nephew. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 6, 2005 at 10:00 AM at the Episcopal Church in Bonesteel. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Burke. There will be a wake service on Wednesday beginning at 6:00 PM at the Milks Camp Community Hall.
