Meerdink and husband, Gary of Muscatine, and their children, Susanne and Mike Shield and family of Muscatine, Beth and Mitch Mertes and family of Boise, Idaho and Stephen and Angie Meerdink and family of Boise; Connie Smith and family of Muscatine; Fred and Mary Meixner and family of Norfolk, Va.; and Melvin and Khrystal Meixner and family of Arkansas; several grandchildren including grandsons, Jacob Swift and Jason Swift of Muscatine and a sister, Joyce Reddick of Illinois. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, five sisters; a son at birth; a daughter, Patricia Meixner Swift and three great-grandchildren, Luke, Kate, Ashley Meerdink.∼Marjorie L. Meixner, 85, of Muscatine, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 11, 2009, at Unity Hospital. Celebration of Life Service will be 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2009, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Reverend David Ivie and Pastor Michael Shield will officiate the service. Honorary bearers will be Fred Meixner, Melvin Meixner, Frank Lascelles, and Dennis Montandon. Casket bearers will be grandsons, Stephen Meerdink, Mitchell Mertes, Benjamin Shield, Samuel Shield, Jacob Swift, and Jason Swift. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church Emmaus Caf? or to M.C.S.A. to help with homeless assistance. She was married to Larse Gilleland for 25 years and he preceded her in death. She later married the love of her life, Frank A. Meixner on October 7, 1989, in Muscatine. He also preceded her in death. She retired from HON after 18 years of employment. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. Her love for the Lord, family, friends, and even strangers was evident in how she lived her life. She enjoyed the Wednesday Morning Coffee Group at First Presbyterian Church, and the friendships she made at the Towers apartments and Bickford Cottage. She also enjoyed sewing and fishing. Her greatest joy was time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Those left to honor her memory include Millie S. Meerdink and husband, Gary, of Muscatine, and their children, Susanne and Mike Shield and family of Muscatine, Beth and Mitch Mertes and family of Boise, Idaho, and Stephen and Angie Meerdink and family of Boise, Idaho, Connie Smith and family of Muscatine, Fred and Mary Meixner and family of Norfolk, Virginia, and Melvin and Khrystal Meixner and family of Arkansas; several grandchildren, including grandsons, Jacob Swift and Jason Swift, both of Muscatine; many great-grandchildren; and one sister, Joyce Reddick, of Illinois. She was preceded in death by parents, four brothers, five sisters, one son at birth, one daughter, Patricia Meixner Swift, and three great-grandchildren, Luke, Kate, Ashley Meerdink.
