Mr. and Mrs. Throne have the sympathy of the entire community in their bereavement. ===================== The Chester Herald, Thursday, August 12, 1937; pgs. 1 & 8 MARJORIE LOUISE THRONE Marjorie Louise Throne, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W.C. Throne, was born April 25, 1922 at Chester, Nebr., and passed away July 26, 1937. She united with the Methodist Church at Chester, April 4, 1934. The following is a portion of the remarks made at the funeral service by the Rev. R.H. Chenoweth of Ravenna: "Oh, what do you think the angels say?" Said the children up in heaven. "There's a dear little girl coming home today. She's almost ready to fly away From the earth we used to live in. Let's go and open the gates of pearl, Open them wide for the new little girl." "God wanted her here where His little ones meet," Said the children up in heaven. "She shall play with us in the golden street; She has grown too fair, she has grown too sweet For the earth we used to live in; She needed the sunshine, this dear little girl, That gilds this side of the gates of pearl," Said the children up in heaven. "Fly with her quickly O angels, dear!" Said the children up in heaven. "See - she is coming! Look there At the jasper light on her sunny hair, When the yelling clouds are heaven!" Ah! hush, hush, hush! All the swift (unreadable word) furl! For the King himself, at the gates of pearl, Is taking the hand of the dear little girl And is leading her into heaven." -- Edith Gilling Cherry. Text - "Her sun is gone down while it is yet day." Jeremiah 15:9 This poem brings to us a very beautiful thought "going to heaven." A beautiful thought but like most of life's beautiful things it requires an effort or a sacrifice to get it. This has a dark side also for to "go to heaven" one must leave his friends here. "Night has a thousand eyes, The day but one, Yet the light of a whole world dies With the setting sun." This does not represent the whole truth, for light of only half the world dies with setting sun, the other half, coming into new light. Life like that, death brings darkness but going to heaven brings light. When sun and darkness comes on, when death comes so does grief. But like eclipses of short days which only temporarily obscure the sun, so grief only temporarily obscures our loves one. While circumstances obscures the sun, nothing extinguishes it. Life is simi- (unreadable words) porarily (sic) obscures our loved ones. While circumstances obscure the sun, nothing extinguishes it. Life is similar to that. "The mind has a thousand eyes, The heart but one; Yet the light of a whole life dies When love is done." As eclipses only temporarily darkens our lives, so grief temporarily darkens our lives, but love eventually shines thru the dark clouds, and so long as love endures for those present or gone it is still light. In Old Testament we read of Jeremiah deploring the failure of Jerusalem to live up to her possibilities as a city of God. Refers to her failure in these words: "Her sun is gone down while it is yet day." Text fitting for Marjorie's life, in one sense her day was by no means done, not ready for setting sun, yet figuratively speaking "her sun has gone down." Yet it is not necessarily dark as yet. Let us change one or two words of the text, substituting 'but' for 'while'. "Her sun is gone down BUT is it still day.' As sunset in one hemisphere means sunrise in another, so in her life, the setting of her sun here means the rising of her sun in eternity. And as long as the sun shines "it is still day." When the sun has set we still get its light by reflection from other planets, and this true in Marjorie's case. While her physical sun has set, her spiritual sun is still shining and reflects in the lives of her friends and her loved ones. As 'setting of the sun' is not the true 'close of day', so neither is death the end of all. Death is an important incident in our physical lives. Our spirits go on "over there" -- and heaven is more glorious because of the loved ones there. 'How glorious heaven must be now that she is there.' To lose our dear children is hard, out (sic) life has a more pathetic note, James Whitcomb Riley comforting his friend Bill Nye,' mourning over the loss of his child says" "Fain would I be of service, say something, Between the tears, that could be comforting, But, ah, so sadder than yourself am I Who have no little child to die." "Tis hard when their suns go down prematurely, but harder yet never to have seen the light of their suns. Having had them if only for a short while makes life sweeter. And death is somewhat like the setting sun, "night comes on," but the sun is still shining and we use its reflected light -- so with life. "In the land of fadeless day, Lies, the city foursquare; It shall never pass away, And there is 'no night there.' There they need no sunshine bright, In that city foursquare; For the Lamb is all the light, And there is 'no night there.' No need of sun to shine by day, Nor moon to shine by night, His glory does enlighten all, And God Himself the Light." "her sun is gone down - BUT - it is STILL day."
