Marjorie Viola Holmes was born April 27, 1920, in Meckling, S.D. She graduated from Vermillion High School. She married Elmer H. Sorensen on June 29, 1940, in rural Vermillion. Marjorie Viola Holmes was born April 27, 1920, in Meckling, S.D. She graduated from Vermillion High School. She married Elmer H. Sorensen on June 29, 1940, in rural Vermillion. For a time during WWII, she and her husband lived in Oakland, CA, and worked in the Kaiser Shipyards. They returned to Vermillion after the war, where she worked as a teacher's aide in the elementary and middle schools. She also worked in the Trinity Lutheran Pre-School, and was a superintendent for the Trinity Sunday School. She was also a registrar for the local DAR Chapter in Vermillion. In addition to her husband, survivors include three sons; Paul of Vienna, VA, Tom of Vermillion, and Tim of Omaha, NE; two daughters: Mrs. Jim (Susan) Russo of Sioux Falls, and LuAnn Sorensen of Vermillion; nine grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; three brothers: Darold of Independence, MO, Robert of Cedar City, UT, and Roger of Vermillion; and three sisters: Frances Lefler, Glennys Harrington and Shirley Girard, all of Vermillion. Services began at 10 a.m. Thursday in Trinity Lutheran Church in Vermillion, with burial in the Bluff View Cemetery. Visitation was held Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Hansen Funeral Home in Vermillion, with the family present.
