She had not been feeling as well as usual since the previous Sunday, but her indisposition seemed to be the result of an ordinary cold until the day of her death, when the attending physicians pronounced her ailment to be the dread disease--diphtheria. She had not been feeling as well as usual since the previous Sunday, but her indisposition seemed to be the result of an ordinary cold until the day of her death, when the attending physicians pronounced her ailment to be the dread disease--diphtheria. Everything possible was done for her in the few hours that remained before her death, but to no avail. The little life was snuffed out almost before the grief-stricken parents, nearly stunned by the suddenness with which one blow followed the other, had time to realize the meaning of this terrifying thing which had entered their happy home. Marjory Darleen Stroh was born here in Hooper on July 6, 1916, being 6 years, 10 months and 11 days old when her brief span of life on this earth was ended. Her usually sweet and sunny disposition endeared her to all, and she will be sadly mourned and missed, not only by her sorrowing parents and little sister, Virginia, as well as other relatives, but also by her friends, teachers and playmates. The family has the deepest sympathy of the whole community, the more so that, on account of the contagious nature of the disease, they were deprived of the consolation of the presence of friends and relatives in their great hour of need. Little Marjory was laid to rest in Hooper cemetery on Saturday morning, Father Paschang having charge of the short services.
