Description	:	Daughter of John Edward and Minnie (Kramer) Botine. Marlene graduated from Pocahontas High School in 1960. After graduation she attended American Beauty Academy in Des Moines, Iowa, and received her degree in Cosmetology in 1961. Marlene was introduced to Ed Havlik and the couple was married on June 16, 1962 in Minnesota. To this union, four children were born. Marlene was introduced to Ed Havlik and the couple was married on June 16, 1962 in Minnesota. To this union, four children were born. For a brief period of time, the family lived in Cresco before moving to Nashua. Marlene was employed at several local business including the Iowa State Liquor Store for five years, First Nashua State Bank in Nashua for ten years, and Lincoln Savings Bank in Nashua for seven years before retiring in 2005. Marlene courageously and privately battled lung cancer for five and a half years. She was proud of the fact that she beat the statistical odds for survival. She lived her life in her own way, never willing to give up her independence or be a bother to anyone. She was a devoted mother, friend and confidante. She always had a smile on her face, an infectious laugh, and encouraging words to offer. She had a sense of adventure and enjoyed travel, gardening, fine foods with family and friends and following local and world current events. Marlene was a member of St John Lutheran Church in Nashua, the book club, a volunteer during election seasons and participated with the Bradford Historical Society. Marlene is survived by three daughters; Beverly Havlik; Donna Havlik, Valerie (Bradley) Addis; brother, Paul (Judy) Botines; along with three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ed Havlik; son, Joe Havlik; two brothers, Larry Botine and Norman Botine.
