Description	:	Marsella was born west of Pleasanton to John and Rosie Hadwiger Sheckler. The family sold their farm in 1924 and moved into Pleasanton for a few years. Her father bought another farm only to once again move into town where Marsella was graduated from Pleasanton High School in 1933. Marsella and her sister Harriet learned homemaking skills from their Mother. The family raised a big garden and had fruit trees. Read More	Marsella was born west of Pleasanton to John and Rosie Hadwiger Sheckler. The family sold their farm in 1924 and moved into Pleasanton for a few years. Her father bought another farm only to once again move into town where Marsella was graduated from Pleasanton High School in 1933. Marsella and her sister Harriet learned homemaking skills from their Mother. The family raised a big garden and had fruit trees. Summer months, during the depression years, were spent canning and making jellies and jams. Both sisters had memories of the dry years, dirt storms and the flood of 1935 which took out the Pleasanton bridge and nearly got in their house. Marsella and Harriet both worked as "hired girls" and in the local grocery store. Harriet's diary mentions them attending Christian Endeavor at the local United Brethren Church and attending movies in Kearney and Ravenna. The diary also noted Marsella cutting, waving, and pin curling her sister and Mother's hair. It was Marsella's greatest dream to be a beautician! She always cut and permed her own hair! Marsella married Fredrick Ewer April 27, 1938. Fredrick worked as a brakeman for the Union Pacific Railroad out of North Platte where the family lived. Their only son, Robert, was born November 18, 1943. The family came back to Pleasanton after the death of Fredrick June 1, 1956 from cancer. After a brief stay in Pleasanton where Marsella worked in the school lunchroom, Robert and Marsella moved back to North Platte. She was employed by Schwesers of North Platte in the alteration department. Marsella was an excellent cook and baker. She was known for her boiled frosting and kuchen. She and Harriet were also in constant contact through their weekly letters which arrived on a certain day each week! Marsella excelled at crossword puzzles, sewing, and quilting. She lost her only child, Robert, on July 22, 1999. Marsella was cared for by her niece Christine in Omaha when she could no longer live by herself. Marsella died in Omaha shortly after her 100th birthday. Survivors include her sister-in-law, Clara May Ewer of Aberdeen, SD; borther -in-law and sister-in-law, Jack and Alberta Ewer of Loup City,; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fredrick; son, Robert; sister, Harriet Sheckler Phillips; infant baby sister; and a one year old brother, Ervin A. Sheckler. Grave side services were held at the Pleasanton Cemetery on July 1, 2015 by Pastor Park of the United Methodist Church.
