On June 27, 1936, in South Bend, he married Sarah Chamber-lain. She survives with a daughter, Sharon Teeter of Sawyer; a son, Howard of Stevensville; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Dorothy Enger of Union, and Marie Nelson and Evelyn Letter, both of Buchanan; and his mother, Dottie Briney of Niles. He was a member of First United Methodist Church.
