Description	:	Martena Gysbertga was born to Hendrikus and Gysbertje (de Jong) Vos. Her parents were both born in the Netherlands. Nineteen months earlier her brother, Gysbert Jacob was born May 7, 1882. Martena's parents farmed in the Black Oak area in Mahaska Co. Iowa on various farms. When she was 4 years old, they purchased the original de Jong farm from her grandfather, Pieter Sr. Her mother died 2 years later and her father eventually remarried claiming Lyntje Hueper as his bride. Iowa on various farms. In 1891 Henridus sold the farm to other family members and repurchased it in 1902. On Mar 11, 1909 Martena married William Ver Meer, son of Anthony and Alida (De Bruin) Ver Meer. Martena and William had two children - Gysbert Jacob born 1910, died 1985 Antonie Albert born 1912, died 1920 William continued farming and they eventually owned the original Pieter de Jong Sr. farm. It has been in the de Jong family for over 100 years so became a Century farm. Martena's mother, Gysbertje, was Pieter de Jong's youngest daughter, and he spent his last years living with her family. Martena and William were members of the Christian Reformed Church.
