Mrs. Mattie Alice Stuart, wife of David I. Stuart, died at her home at Leonard Sunday, Mar. 4, following an illness of several weeks due to pneumonia and complications, being at the time of her death 61 years, 2 months and 6 days old. Her maiden name was Mattie Alice Vandiver and she was born Missouri Dec. 27, 1867. On Feb. 24, 1881, she was united in marriage to David l. Stuart, who with two children, a son and daughter, Mrs. Jula Ballance, of Leonard, Pierce, of Oakland, Calif., both of whom were with her when she died. She also leaves two grandsons, Wayne Ballance, of Leonard, and Lee Stuart of Oakland, Calif. She also has three sisters and three brothers, Mrs. C. W. Anderson of Berkly, Calif., Mrs. Ida Moody , of St. Louis and Mrs. J. J. Shofstall of Shelbina, W. G. Vandiver, Ben Vandiver of Leonard and Charles Vandiver of St. Louis, besides lots of other relatives and friends. This ends the life of a good woman. She was one of the best and most lovely women and had a good word for everyone and was always ready to help some one who needed help, always at church and Sunday school and was always doing good for someone. She would always rather do something for someone else than for herself. She was a wonderful woman. In her death her husband has lost a true and loving wife and those children a dear and loving mother. No one can ever fill her place. The chair is vacant and never can be filled. She was a lovely character and loved by all who knew her. She always had a sweet smile and a good word for everyone. I have known her a long time and I never did hear her say a word against any one. She loved her home and her family. As a friend she was true, as a neighbor there was none better. She would do anything for anyone. All was done for her by her husband, children and neighbors that could be done but to no avail. God only knows how they long for a touch of that angel hand that is beckoning from above. Forget not, loved ones, that He doeth all things well and perhaps some day we will understand and see His hand in and through it all. Would you also remember that death is but the gate of life and she whom you mourn as dead now has life eternal in that glorious world above where she is waiting and watching for you in that land where sorrow never comes and partings are no more. Blessed are they that die in the Lord from henceforth yea saith the spirit that they may rest from their labors and their works do follow them. Today her name appears in the register of Christ's angels and she is one of the thousands that are singing around His throne in Heaven to the broken hearted ones. We would say look to Jesus through your tears and He can show you that dear loved ones under the tree of life beside the crystal stream happy in the love of Him, whose love is mightier than all deaths. Friends, relatives, children and husband, let us strive to emulate her virtues, put our trust in the God upon whom she relied and when the summons come to join that innumerable caravan, may we not go like quarry slaves but unrestrained and soothed by that unfaltering trust, wrap the drapery of the couch about us and lie down to pleasant dreams. Let us not forget that all things work together for good to them that love the Lord, so may you all live that when the summons come you will be ready and prepared to meet your dear wife mother is the wish of this true friend. She was a member of the Methodist church, uniting when a young woman. Funeral services were held at the Christian church in Leonard Monday evening conducted by Rev C. E. Nichols.
