Mrs. Ayers was 83 years old, a daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth Hunt, of Canonsburg, and was born at the old homestead. Mr. Ayers was 86 years old, a son of Samuel Ayers, a native of Ireland, and Ellen Ritchie Ayers, a native of Scotland, and was born at Candor, Pa. They were married on Aug. 16, 1861, more than 63 years ago. To the couple ten children were born, of whom nine survive them, namely: Mary Ann, wife of James Holleran, Cecil Township; Mrs. Elizabeth Gladen, Canonsburg; O. G. Ayers, Eighty-Four; W. J. Ayers, Hickory; Carrie Belle, wife of Frank L. Cummins, Rea, Pa.; C. L. Ayers, Canonsburg; S. H. Ayers, Cambridge Springs; E.D. Ayers, Jenners, Pa.; R. R. Ayers, Gretna. They also left 26 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. [Isabella has passed away, the third child.] Funeral services were conducted at the house, in both instances, and burial was made in Oak Spring Cemetery.
