She had been in failing health for the past several years. Mrs. Maas attained the age of 69 years and 22 days. Martha Anna Sophia Maas was born at Scribner, NE., July 13, 1890, the daughter of Henry Borcher and his wife Wilhelmina nee Wiebold. In early infancy she was baptized in St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Scribner and in 1903 renewed her baptismal vow in the rite of confirmation in the same church of her baptism, and also by the Rev. Treskow. On Sept. 9, 1909 she was united in holy wedlock with Martin Maas. This union was blessed with six children. Since the death of her husband in 1956 Mrs. Maas made her home with her daughter Irene here in Victor. She was a member of St. Jame's Lutheran Church. Mrs. Maas was preceded in death by her husband, Martin Maas in 1956, her parents, and one son, who died in infancy. She leaves to mourn her death, her children: Roma, Mrs. Ralph Samland, Victor, Waldemar Maas, San Bernardino, CA., Irene, Mrs. Milo Stowell, Victor, Elaine, Mrs. Harry Lafrenz, Hudson, Iowa and Dale Maas, Des Moines; ten grandchildren; three brothers and two sisters, and other relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. C. H. Schroeder at 2 p.m. Friday in St. James Lutheran. Mrs. Cloyd Lyman and Mrs. Herbert Neuhaus sang "Who Knows When Death May Overtake Me" and "Asleep in Jesus," accompanied by the organist, Mrs. George Keller. In charge of flowers were Mr. and Mrs. Carl Weiss and Mrs. Alva Neitzel. Pallbearers were George Keller, Rudy Meyer, Vic Van Hamme, Alva Neitzel, Joe Safken and Howard Meldrem. Burial was in the I.O.O.F. cemetery.
