She had been in failing health for the last 10 years. She had attained the age of 54 years and 5 months. Roma Catherine Wilheimina Maas Samland, the daughter of Martin G. and Martha Borcher Maas, was born at Homestead, Iowa, July 31, 1910. In early infancy, she was baptized in St. John's Lutheran Church at Homestead. At the age of four, she moved with her parents to Scribner, Nebraska. In 1942, she renewed her baptismal vow in the rite of confirmation in St. Peters Lutheran Church in Scribner by the Rev. Phluge. She attended Parachial school and Scribner High School. On Sept. 9, 1937, she was united in marriage to Ralph Samland of Omaha, Nebraska in St. Peters Lutheran Church in Scribner by Rev. G. W. Lobeck. No children were born to this union. In 1940 they moved to Brooklyn, Iowa from Omaha. In 1941 they moved to Victor where they resided since. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Martin G. Maas, and one brother, Ewald who died in infancy. She leaves to mourn her death, her husband, Ralph Samland, two sisters': Mrs. Milo (Irene) Stowell, Victor, Mrs. Harry (Elaine) La Frenz, Hudson, Iowa; and two brothers: Waldemar H. Maas and Martin Dale Maas, both of Rialto, Cal., ten nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Edward W. Beckmann at 2 p.m. Sunday at St. James Lutheran Church. Mrs. Herbert Neuhaus and Mrs. Wendall Gwin sang "The Lord Is My Shepherd" and "Abide With Me" accompanied by the organist Mrs. Cloyd Lyman. Pall bearers were: George Roberts, Joe Wentland, William Nowotny, August DeMeulenaere, Earl Tuttle, Louis Van Hamme. Burial was in the I.O.O.F. cemetery in Victor.
