Description	:	Martha Ellen Wolf was born on the David Wolf homestead near Carlisle Penn., June 10, 1852, and left this life of earthly pilgrimage at Chester, Nebraska on the morning of June 4, 1925. She would have reached the age of 73 years next Wednesday. 1879 she was married to Martin Duey of Illinois who was formerly from Cumberland county (sic) Pa. She would have reached the age of 73 years next Wednesday. 1879 she was married to Martin Duey of Illinois who was formerly from Cumberland county (sic) Pa. They lived in Illinois for nine years, then came to Chester in 1888 where she has made her home since that time. Here her highly esteemed husband preceeded (sic) her to the heavenly home in 1911. Mrs. Duey united with the German Reformed church (sic) in her childhood years, and has been a most useful and devoted member of the Methodist Episcopal church (sic) in Chester ever since coming to reside here. A woman blessed with earthly means, yet she had no desire for Ostentation or display, living a simple life and giving to many agencies in the work of the Kingdom of God. She was faithful in her church obligations being a regular and prompt attendant at all services, mid week and Sunday, until sickness detained her from such happy privileges and her interest continued while confined to her home. She loved the Word of God, to read it and hear it expounded, and Christian fellowship and prayer was a feast of spiritual delight to her. She will live on in the memory of many people in this land and in the lands beyond the seas, where her gifts are helping to equip native workers in the service of the Saviour. There was an almost Puritanial (sic) touch in her nature and who can deny we need more of that spirit in these days, a strict sense of truth and honesty, a deep religious experience and a faith that steadied her through the hours of weakness and suffering. There was no fear of the approaching end, for the end was but the beginning, the entering into a relm (sic) that is beyond all our comprehension. Let faith exalt her joyful voice And now in triump sing; O grave where it thy victory? And where, O death, thy sting? The funeral service was conducted from the Methodist church (sic) by Rev. Handel Collier assisted by Rev. H.S. Weary of Ulysses, Nebr. and interment was made in the Chester Cemetery last Monday morning. Card of Thanks We wish to take this means of thanking the many friends of this vicinity for the kindness shown during the sickness and at the death and burial of our beloved Aunt Martha Duey. The kindness will never be forgotten. The Relatives Chester Herald, Thursday, June 11, 1925 --------------------------------------- The following were out of town relatives of Aunt Martha Duey, who attended her funeral here Monday of this week: Mr. and Mrs. Hartel and Mr. and Mrs. Emmett Shoemaker of Plattsburg, Mo.; Mrs. Sadie Mohler of Maysville, Mo.; Mr. and Mrs. Homer Foutz of Guide Rock, Nebr.; Mrs. Ida Miller of Berrien Springs, Mich.; Mrs. Rachel Matthews and daughter, Jessie of Cheyenne, Wyo.; John Kinert and daughter Evelyn of Rago, Kans. Geo. Harden of Wichita Kans and Mrs. Lila Duey and family of Uni Place. Chester Herald, unknown date --------------------------------------- The late Martha Duey, in her Will left ten thousand dollars to the local M.E. Church of Chester; ten thousand dollars to the Nebraska Wesleyan University and ten thousand dollars to the Methodist Hospital at Omaha.
