Description	:	From Newspaper Obit April, 1947. Mr. Martha McClellan, was born in Dark City, Ohio, on April 14, 1853, the daughter of Eli and Catherine Marker. At the age of 12 years she came to Iowa and settled on a farm west of Tipton. Later she moved to a farm east of Cedar Bluffs and spent most of her life in that community. Mr. Martha McClellan, was born in Dark City, Ohio, on April 14, 1853, the daughter of Eli and Catherine Marker. At the age of 12 years she came to Iowa and settled on a farm west of Tipton. Later she moved to a farm east of Cedar Bluffs and spent most of her life in that community. On July 4, 1872, she was married to William Bailey McClellan at Solon, Iowa. To this union 11 children were born. Her husband and five children preceded her in death. She was the sole survivor of a family of eleven children. Besides a host of many friends and acquaintances, Mrs. McClellan leaves to mourn her passing six children, Mrs. Ida Bolger, Mrs. Minnie Thiel, Mr. Albert McClellan, Mrs. Ollie Fisher, Mrs. Mabel Allen and Mrs. Mary Templeton, and 14 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and2 great great grandchildren. Mrs. McClellan was baptized in the Lutheran church on November 18, 1853, and after residing in Iowa for 82 years, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Mary Templeton on Thursday, April 17, 1947, at the age of 94 years and 3 days. Her daughter Mrs. Bessie Saylor, before her death, requested the following poem be read at her funeral. Funeral services were held at the Cedar Bluffs church at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon, April 20, with interment at the Shawver cemetery. Rev. Orville H. Schroer officiated. Once absence was a real and lonesome thing. Time was I wished that I her face could see., But nothing I could do back then could bring The mother who was far away to me. There were long trips on which she couldn't go. Time separates the living was its will. Keen is the pain that homesick travelers know. Distance makes voids that yearning cannot fill. But now that she is gone, 'tis strange to say I find her always with me, far or near. I've but to think of her by night or day, And where I am the mother will appear. -Edgar A. Guest
