She had been troubled for some days, says the Record, with a pain about her heart, but not sufficient to cause any alarm. Sunday she was in her usual health all day. In the evening, about 9 o'clock, she retired to her bed, and a few moments later her husband was attracted by her strange breathing, and hastening to her side, found that the spirit of his loved one had already passed beyond the sufferings and trials of this world. Martha Jane Horn, the eldest child of James C. and Mary Horn, was born in Bedford County, Pa., March 11, 1841, and moved with her parents to Cedar county, Iowa, in 1854, making the long journey by wagon. She was converted and united with the M. E. church in early life and has been a faithful and consistent christian during all these years. On the 12 day of September, 1867, she was united in marriage with Jonathan D. Edge, who survives her, in Tipton, Iowa. In 1871 she removed with her husband to Saunders county, Neb., and lived there a number of years. In 1883 she moved to Jasper county, Iowa, on the farm northwest of Newton, which continued to be her home until she removed in the spring of 1898 to town, residing there at the time of her death. Besides her husband and two sons, C. O. and O. W. Edge, and their wives and two grandchildren, she leaves one sister, Mrs. Emma Reeder, of Tipton, Iowa, and two brothers, James S. Horn, of Omaha, and George P. Horn, of St. Edward, Neb., and other relatives, some of them being residents of this city. The funeral services were held in the first M. E. church yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock, a large number of friends being present. Rev. J. C. Willits officiated, his sermon being full of comfort to the bereaved friends, who have the sympathy of everybody in their sore bereavement.
