Mrs. Hays was born east of Mediapolis, September 21, 1870. On March 16, 1893, she was married to Frank Hays who preceded her in death on March 21, 1930. Mr. and Mrs. Hays were the parents of five sons and two daughters, all of whom survive. Mrs. Hays was a resident of the Morning Sun community until 1917 when the family moved to Sterling, Kansas. Her last years were spent in Denver, Colorado, and in Bremerton, Washington. In her youth she united with the Sharon Reformed Presbyterian church and continued her membership in the Covenenter churches wherever she lived. Survivors are Austin, Edmund, Oklahoma; Everett and Pearl McBurney, Lakewood, Colorado; Reverend Herbert Hays, a missionary in Latakia, Syria; Dr. Robert Hays, Ft. Collins, Colorado; Elmer, Los Angeles; and Evelyn Gilchrist, Bremerton. There are 16 grandchildren. Other survivors include three sisters: Mrs. Mayme McElhinney, Morning Sun; Mrs. Emma Caldwell, Washington, Iowa; and Mrs. Ruby Baird, Morning Sun.
