Angstrom, who was drowned in its waters near her home sometime Friday forenoon. How the accident happened will probably never be known for she was alone at the time. Mrs. Angstrom was very fond of fishing and has made a practice to go fishing early in the morning for some months. On this particular morning her husband was called across the river to look after some business and Mrs. Angstrom announced her intention of going fishing. They both left the house shortly after six o'clock. She went to her favorite fishing spot about a quarter of a mile northwest of their home. When Mr. Angstrom was about ready to return home he called for his residence on the telephone but no one answered. This was nearly at the noon hour. He then hurried home and found that his wife was not in the house and the dog who always went with her about the farm lands was lying on the porch. He hurried to the place where she went fishing and was horrified to find her lifeless body lying face downward in the water. Thinking that life might not yet be extinct he waded into the river and brought the body to the shore and then rushed for assistance and a doctor. It was soon learned that she had been dead many hours. The body was discovered shortly after dinner and it is thought she fell into the water early in the day. Mrs. Angstrom was an unusally strong swimmer and there seems no way to account for the tragedy other than she had a fainting spell and fell into the water strangling to death before she could recover from the spell. She was subject to these spells. Some think that when her feet sank in the soft mud of the river bottom she could not extricate herself and fell forward for she was found in that position. It is one of the saddest tragedies that have occurred in this vicinity in many years and the whole community is grief stricken for she was a woman beloved by all who knew her. ANGSTROM DROWNS NEAR STRATFORD TODAY Believed That She Suffered an Attack of Heart Trouble and Fell Into the River Near Her Home Found in Water By Husband Thought That She Went Down to the Des Moines River to Enjoy a Walk or to Fish Mrs. J.H. Hice and Mrs. Albert Greeley this morning recieved a telephone message from relatives in Stratford announcing the death by drowning early this morning of their sister-in-law, Mrs. P.T. Angstrom, who lived on a farm three miles north of Stratford on the Des Moines River. All the particulars were not ascertained over the phone, but as near as could be learned, Mrs. Angstrom's husband, Dr. P.T. Angstrom, who is a veterinary, left the farm home on a call early this morning about 6 o'clock and returning to the house sometime in the forenoon found the morning housework still undone and his wife absent. After calling for her about the house and barnyard, he went down along the river which flows through the barnyard and there saw the body of his wife floating near the river bank. It was so near that he pulled it out without assistance. The supposition is that his wife, who was fond of strolling along the river and of fishing, must have gone down to the river and there been seized by one of her attacks of heart failure, to which she was subject and fallen into the water where she drowned. Mrs. Angstrom leaves beside her husband, two married children and other relatives. Dr. P.T. Angstrom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Olof Angstrom, old and respected residents of Stratford and is well known in that section of the county. Mrs. Hice and Mrs. Greeley will leave in the morning for Stratford and on that account the Bon Ami Bakery will be closed until further notice.
