Description	:	Martha was the daugher of Thomas Hay of Haverstraw, NY, and his wife, Sarah Gordon Smith, the only daughter of Joshua Hett Smith, who was unjustly accused of aiding Benedict Arnold in the Revolutionary War. Sarah moved to SC with her other (six total) children after Thomas's death where her sons had come (to Beaufort). Her mother, Elizabeth Gordon, had been from Charleston. Martha married her first cousin, Dr Thomas Woodward Hutson Sr, but died at 26 years old, leaving three surviving children, Matilda, and Martha, both unmarried, and Dr. Thomas Woodward Hutson, Jr, also buried here.
