Description	:	Martha Mae Bartels was the 6th of 9 children born to Heinrich Conrad Bartels (Jr) and his wife Johanna (nee Ostermeier), on their farm near Plymouth, Nebraska. She was raised there and attended school through the 6th grade. On February 22, 1906, at Plymouth, Nebraska she married Charles Frederick Malchow, whose family had immigrated from Perth County, Ontario, Canada in 1893. They were the parents of six children, all daughters: Amanda, Mabel, Pearl, Helen, Wilma, and Neva. On February 22, 1906, at Plymouth, Nebraska she married Charles Frederick Malchow, whose family had immigrated from Perth County, Ontario, Canada in 1893. They initially lived in Plymouth, where her husband joined her father and brothers in the home construction business, and then tried a short stint farming in Kit Carson County, Colorado. They returned to Nebraska, where Charles worked at/helped manage grain elevators at Plymouth and in Gage County. Following that, he returned to home construction in Plymouth. ----------------------------------------- On August 15, 1958 the Lincoln (Nebraska) Evening Journal and Nebraska State Journal ran this death notice: Mrs Martha M. Malchow, 70, formerly of Plymouth, died in Beatrice. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plymouth. She lived in Plymouth most of her life, moving to Beatrice in 1953. Mrs. Amanda Haeseker, Flagner [sic-Flagler], Colo., Mrs. Pearl Hass [sic-Haas], Mrs. Wilma Carstens, Lincoln, Mrs. Mable [sic-Mabel] Gray, Beatrice, and Mrs. Helen Huff, Bremerton, Wash.; five grandchildren, four sisters, Mrs. Herman Rohr, Beatrice, Mrs. George Lammel and Mrs. Gideon Lammel of Plymouth, Mrs. H.I. Smith of Twin Falls, Ida; one brother, William Bartels of Beatrice. Funeral 2 p.m. Saturday, Immanuel Lutheran Church of Plymouth. Burial: Church cemetery
