She was born and raised south of Rushville and made her lifetime residence in Sheridan County. Martha received a Certificate of Award from school district 112 for perfect attendance being neither absent nor tardy for three years, 1914-1916. She was united in marriage to John Petersen, April 2, 1923, and to them two children were born, a son, Freeman Petersen and a daughter, Carol Strasburger. Read More	OBITUARY FOR MARTHA MARGARETE SANDOZ PETERSEN Martha Margarete Petersen was born July 17, 1899 to George and Helen Sandoz and died April 18, 1984. She was born and raised south of Rushville and made her lifetime residence in Sheridan County. Martha received a Certificate of Award from school district 112 for perfect attendance being neither absent nor tardy for three years, 1914-1916. She was united in marriage to John Petersen, April 2, 1923, and to them two children were born, a son, Freeman Petersen and a daughter, Carol Strasburger. In 1942 she received the Victory Home Garden recognition, a program to plan, grow and store homegarden work. The meritorious award was signed by Dwight Griswold, Nebraska govenor at the time. Through the years she belonged to various clubs, had many hobbies, keeping up with letter-writing, maintaining family ties, crocheting and keeping albums of family pictures along with birthdates of all the new babies and new family members. Surviving are her son, Freeman and her daughter Carol; eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; a brother George Emil Sandoz, Milan, Minn., and two sisters, Mrs. Alice Van Kerrbrook, Hot Springs, SD. and Rosalie Martin, Lincoln. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband John, two brothers and one sister. Funeral services were held April 23 at the Chamberlain Funeral Home in Rushville with the Rev Alvin Trecano in charge. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery in Rushville.
