She came to Nebraska with the family in 1870. Her parents took up a homestead in the Wattsville neighborhood, Lost Creek Township. Their nearest shopping center was Columbus, Nebraska, a seventeen mile drive. They went by ox team and lumber wagon, going down one day and back the next. Martha's father [note: Ansel Jackson Wright} was an ordained Baptist minister, the same as his father had been. The family was identified with the earliest church activities if that section. He preached the first sermon ever delivered there. He also performed the first marriage ceremony, which was of his eldest daughter Anna to Henry Clayburn. He was also a carpenter, and built their own home as well as several others in that neighborhood. Martha was married to Edwin Hoare October 1, 1873, at the age of 18 years. Edwin and Martha took up a homestead in the Wattsville neighborhood. Their first home was a sod house, built by themselves. Edwin ploughed the first furlough in that section. They had seven children. Lewis Henry was born May 25, 1874, Lotta Emma April 24, 1876. Both births were in the sod house. While living there, Edwin's mother [note: Charity Werring Hoare] came to visit them, stayed several months, and returned to England. Later on they bought more adjoining land, which had a large two-story house built on it. In this home Alfred Earnest was born in 1878, Thomas Sherwell in 1880, and Alice Pearl in 1889. In 1889 they moved to Genoa, Nebraska, where Edwin had charge of the government farm at the Indian School, and Martha had charge of the sewing room. Edwin Harrison Jr was born there December 15, 1892 [note; not a true junior, middle name in honor of then-President Benjamin Harrison]. He was three months old when they moved back to the [Lost Creek] farm. Ruby Mary was born there August 28, 1897. She died February 20, 1899. In 1901 they moved from the farm to Columbus, Nebraska, where Edwin made his headquarters while serving as District Deputy United States Revenue Collector. After Edwin retired from the Revenue Service, they moved back to the farm [note: Silver Creek, NE], where they lived until Edwin's death November 7, 1915. Martha passed away May 22, 1929.
