DAN LEPPO DIED AT LIBERTYVILLE Many friends here were shocked this morning to learn that Mrs. Dan Leppo of Libertyville had passed away about midnight last night at her home. The lady had been in ill health for some time past and had been considered seriously illl several days ago. For a couple of days she had been feeling better and relatives were beginning to hope that she was out of danger. Last evening she said she felt much better and urged the family to retire for the night. About midnight members of the house hold (sic.) were awakened by her labored breathing and hastened to her bed side (sic.) only to find that the Death Angel had called and that she was fast slipping away from this earth. The end came in a few minutes. Mrs. Leppo was one of the most highly respected women of Libertyville. She was a member of the Presbyterian church of that city and was well known for many miles. She leaves a husband and three children to mourn her departure. The children are, Mrs. Ed Ward of Victor, Mrs. Findlay Vaughn of Chicago Ill., and Charles Leppo of Libertyville. The funeral services have not yet been definately arranged but it is probable that they will be held on Friday. ------- Jefferson County Republican Friday March 5, 1909 Pg. 8 Col. 3 Martha McCartney was born in Hardin Co., Virginia, in 1847 (sic. 1849 per headstone inscription) and died at her home in Libertyville, Iowa, Feb. 25, 1909, at 12:45 a.m. from hemorrhage of the lungs. She was married to Dan Leppo in 1867 and was the mother of eight children of whom three survive her; Mrs. C. E. Ward of Victor, Mrs. F. F. Vaughn of Chicago, and Charles Leppo of Libertyville. Mrs. Leppo united with the Presbyterian church June 19, 1870, and was always an active member. She had charge of the infant class at the Libertyville S. S. for several years, was a zealous worker in the missionary society. Mrs. Leppo will be greatly missed in her family and among her neighbors. Her last words were "Meet me in Heaven." The funeral services were held in the Presbyterian church at Libertyville conducted by Rev. McNeil and the body laid to rest in the Fell cemetery. ------- Note: The Leppo family headstone is double-sided with inscriptions. On the west facing are inscriptions for Daniel and Martha Leppo. On the east facing are name and date inscriptions for three of their young children: Joseph Leppo, John Leonard Leppo, and Bertha B. Leppo. John Leonard Leppo also has an individual headstone on this lot. Two other young children of this couple were Ida M. Leppo and Mary M. Leppo. They share a double-entry headstone that is separate from the others on this plot. These account for the five children who died prior to the deaths of their parents. -------- Note: Grace Emma Leppo married Charles E Ward on Feb. 27, 1907 in Jefferson County, Iowa. She is the "Mrs. C.E. WARD" mentioned in the obituary. There are entries on OneWorldTree for this family, but certain dates conflict with the Norman Leppo Family group sheet information. Clarification of that information is needed. Carrie Ellen Leppo married Finley F. Vaughn on Dec. 24, 1908 in Jefferson County, Iowa. She is the "Mrs. F.F. Vaughn" mentioned in the obituary.
