Description	:	Daughter of John McGown and Sarah Gooch. --- John McGown was born June 30, 1750 in Londonderry, Ireland, and he died on Aug. 29, 1825, in Columbus, Ohio, age 75. Sarah was born Nov. 23, 1857, in Milford Commonwealth, Massachusetts. John and Sarah were married on Oct. 23, 1783, in Machias, Massachusetts (in present-day Maine). ----------------------- Martha was married to John Hunter, on Jan. 28, 1813, at Columbus, Franklin County Ohio. --- They were associated with the beginning of the Methodist Episcopal Church (in Niles, MI, then in Buchanan, MI). John and Sarah were married on Oct. 23, 1783, in Machias, Massachusetts (in present-day Maine). ----------------------- Martha was married to John Hunter, on Jan. 28, 1813, at Columbus, Franklin County Ohio. --- They were associated with the beginning of the Methodist Episcopal Church (in Niles, MI, then in Buchanan, MI). John and Martha Hunter, immigrated from Ohio, to Berrien County Michigan in 1831, and settled in Section 24 of Niles township (North of Buchanan, MI), in "the bend of the river" area. John Hunter was a Methodist, and a class was formed at his home in 1832. John and Martha Hunter, along with their eldest children, Thomas J. and Sarah Hunter, brought letters of membership, from their church in Ohio. Ensign & Co. 1880, page 182. ------------------------ John Hunter was born April 3, 1789, in Kentucky, and he died Sept. 29, 1835, age 46 (near Buchanan, MI). He was buried in the Benton Cemetery (as is their daughter-in-law Lurinda (Babcock) Hunter). ----------------------------- Martha is buried in the Oak Ridge Cemetery, Buchanan, MI, in Section 20, Lot 48, next to their child Martha Ann (Hunter) Lee. ------------------------------ The children of John Hunter and Martha McGown are: (all born in Ohio) ------------------------------------ 1. Thomas Jefferson Hunter. b. Jan. 14, 1814, in Ohio. m. # 1. Anna Nye, on Feb. 17, 1836, in Berrien Co. MI. (Anna was born "about" 1807, in Warren County Ohio). They had five children. m. # 2. Elizabeth Glover, on Nov. 18, 1844, in Cass County Michigan. (Elizabeth was born July 3, 1823, in IN). They had four children. Thomas lived in s.e. Section 10, of Buchanan township. d. Feb. 22, 1892. Buried: ? Thomas Jefferson Hunter's children are: (1.) John Hunter. b. about 1836. (2.) Martha Ann Hunter. b. about 1838. (3.) Louisa Hunter. b. about 1840. m. John Irving Dragoo, on Sept. 13, 1857, in Buchanan, Berrien County Michigan, the eldest child of Ewell Dragoo and his first wife Jane Barnhouse. (4.) Albert G. Hunter (1842-1935). m. Sarah Lucy Swift, on Jan. 22, 1865, in Berrien Co. MI, daughter of James Swift and Elenor Dalrymple. Sarah was born April 15, 1846 in MI, and she died May 9, 1916, in Buchanan, Michigan. Albert and Sarah are buried in the Oak Ridge Cemetery. Children of Albert and Sarah are: William James Hunter, Fred L. Hunter, Myrtle Mae (Hunter) Runner, and Nellie Gertrude (Hunter) Rupert. (5.) Mary Jane Hunter. b. about 1846-1848. m. David Graham. Lived in Denver, Colorado in 1910. (6.) Andrew James Hunter. b. June 19, 1849. d. Nov. 29, 1926, in Carroll Co. Arkansas. Buried: Glenwood Cemetery, Green Forest, Carroll County Arkansas. (7.) Sarah Francis Hunter. b. about 1852. m. William Roe Coveney, on Feb. 13, 1873, the son of Joseph Coveney and Louisa Roe. (8.) Myra (Miranda) A. Hunter. b. about 1856-1858. m. Joseph Smith. One-year-old son Wesley Smith died in Weesaw township, Berrien Co. MI in 1893, and daughter Maud Smith was born in Weesaw township, Berrien Co. MI on Nov. 20, 1896. In 1910, Myra and her brother Andrew J. Hunter, were living with their sister Mary Jane, and her husband David Graham, in Denver, Denver County Colorado. In 1920, Myra A. Smith has her brother Andrew James Hunter, living with her in Carroll County Arkansas. (Andrew died there in 1926). In 1930 Myra A. Smith is living in Denver, Denver County Colorado again, with her children Cleo C. (b. in Idaho), and Roy R. Smith (b. in Wyoming). (9.) Amy W. Hunter. b. about 1862. (10.) Mary Hunter. -------------------------------------- 2. Sarah Hunter. b. Oct. 22, 1815, in Ohio. m. Spencer Sparks (1815-1872), on June 11, 1839, in Berrien Co. MI. d. Feb.3, 1894, per cemetery records (or Feb. 4, 1899). Buried: Oak Ridge Cemetery (with Spencer) (Section 22, Lot 27). -------------------------------------- 3. Albert Galiton Hunter. b. Oct. 19, 1817, in Ohio. m. # 1. "Albert G. Hunter", born 1817, age 23, married Lurinda Babcock, age 22, on Dec. 24, 1840, in Buchanan township, Berrien County Michigan. (She is listed as "Laurenday Babcock" on their marriage record). She is the daughter of Russel Babcock, and his wife Anna Mallery. Lurinda died on March 30, 1848, at the age of 29 years, 5 months, and 23 days. Lurinda is buried in the Benton Cemetery (as is Albert's father), and shares a headstone with her mother Anna (Mallery) Babcock. m. # 2. Abigail Nancy Cotton, on Feb. 16, 1851, in Berrien Co. MI. (Abigail was born June 4, 1829 in IN and she died Dec. 21, 1908). She is the daughter of William Cotton and Mariah/Maria/Mariam Vorhes/Voorhees. Children: Edward W., and Ida Belle. They lived in Niles, Michigan. d. Dec. 18, 1900, at Niles, MI (of gangrene). Buried: Silverbrook Cemetery (with Abigail), in Niles, Berrien County Michigan (in City, 35, 35, 5). Obituary for A. G. Buried: Union Cemetery, in Sedro-Woolley, Skagit County Washington. Her mother Mahala died when Martha Ann was 10 years old, and Sarah became her step mother and raised her. m. Charles Adams, in Mears, Michigan in 1882. They had a daughter named Pearl. Martha and Charlie moved out West and eventually settled in Sedro Woolley, Skagit County Washington in the mid 1890's and raised their family there. 2. Emma Hunter. b. about 1866/67 in MI (per 1870 & 1880 census). 3. John L. Hunter. b. Jan. 12, 1869, in Oceana Co. MI. d. Sept. 25, 1869, in Oceana Co. MI. (Mahala died in 1875). --- m. # 3.
