Description	:	Martha M. Parrott was born in Warsaw, Ohio, November 10, 1842, and died Monday morning, April12,1909, making her age 66 years, five months and 2days. She was of a family of thirteen children, but two of whom are now living. With her sister, Anna, she assisted in teaching the first school ever taught in Holton. On the morning of August 24, 1862, she was united in marriage to George W. Drake and in the afternoon of the same day... Read More	Martha M. Parrott was born in Warsaw, Ohio, November 10, 1842, and died Monday morning, April12,1909, making her age 66 years, five months and 2days. With her sister, Anna, she assisted in teaching the first school ever taught in Holton. On the morning of August 24, 1862, she was united in marriage to George W. Drake and in the afternoon of the same day she was received into full membership of this church, and has been a most devoted, faithful member .... The third day after her marriage, Mr. Drake enlisted in the Civil War, remaining away from his bride three years. The quiet, patient suffering she endured during those long dark years of conflict will be one of the stories that can be never told. She was the mother of three boys and six girls, two boys in infancy and one daughter in young womanhood having preceded her to the land of glory. Those who remain of this family so devoted to her are, Susie D. Allen, Minneapolis, Minnesota, Robert Z. Drake, Omaha, Nebr., Margaret M. Buckner, Cedar Falls, Iowa, Katherine D. Schoonmaker, Mercedes, Texas, Martha D. Flood, Mayfield, Kentucky, and Nellie D. Slaughter, who still resides in Holton. In her early married life she took two orphan boys, from a New York Orphan's Home, to rear, one of whom has long since gone heavenward, and one we have with us today. A little later she made a place for five other orphan's, a sister's children, and her home was theirs until they had homes of their own .... The Holton Recorder, April 15, 1909. Mr. and Mrs. F. P. Ramey went to Holton Tuesday attending the funeral of Mrs. Drake, aunt of Mrs. Ramey. Soldier Clipper, April14, 1909. Mrs. A. B. Buckner of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, is here for the final settlement of the estate of her mother, the late Mrs. M. M. Drake. The Holton Recorder, January 6, 1910.
