Description	:	Martha is the daughter of William Fred Popin (1881-1956) and Proskovya Ivanovna Batieff (1883-1929). She is one of nine children: Anna, William, John, Hazel, Martha, Alice, Fred, June, and Mary Jane. The 1920 U.S. Federal census shows that Martha lived in Tolleson, Maricopa County. Her father was a farmer. By 1930, the family had moved back to San Francisco, CA, living on Potrero Hill at 954 Carolina Street. Her father worked in the iron works (Union Iron Works). She married John-Jay Alexander Pavloff (1912-1955) on 15 May 1937 in Carson City, Carson City, NV. They had three children: Paula, John, and Masha. ======================== William Fred Popin owned a grocery store at 22nd and Southern Heights on Potrero Hill in San Francisco, Martha Popin Pavloff worked at the store. Binky was the butcher. After John Pavloff died, she traveled around the world twice. She went to Russia with some other Pavloff relatives and visited the Tbilisi area and Kiev. She stayed a month and had a wonderful trip. When she got back to San Francisco, she traveled to Europe and stayed another month. Marty was independent. Unfortunately, while working for the lithographer as a piece worker, she breathed in gold dust from working on the labels and is suffering from emphysema. She requires alot of care and her daughter Paula Pavloff Kovacs, lives next door and is able to help with her needs. Her son, John Pavloff and son in law Ernie Kovacs, also help with her care. Cousin Binky remembers Martha going camping and wearing a pair of boots that came to her knees had a lot of laces. It was almost unheard of for a woman to go camping. This was in the 30's. -------------------------- OBITUARY PAVLOFF, MARTHA POPIN September 1910 - October 2000 Daughter of William and Priscilla Popin. Wife of John Pavloff, Mother of Paula (Ernie), John and Masha. Bobushka of Michael (Nicole), John (Laura) and Geneva. Great Bobushka of Milayla. Marty was one of eight children and had a large extended family, all of whom she loved early. She was a member of the Molokan Community of Potrero Hill. A special thank you to our wonderful neighbors who showed our mother such love and interest: Good Life Grocery, Kayren, Lester and Bob; The Thinkers Cafe, Michael-Gary and Co., and George. Plus all the other "regulars" she saw and visited with each day. You were the highlight of her morning walks. As the matriarch of our family, she was truly our rock. We deeply miss your physical presence, Mom. Thanks to your inspiration we know the benefits of family and so you are a part of us forever.
