Read More	The Hooper Sentinel April 30, 1936 Death Summons Martin Luther Martin Luther, a life long resident of this community, passed away about 10:15 last Friday evening, April 24, at his farm home about 8 miles northeast of Hooper. His death is attributed to a heart ailment and came rather suddenly. Mr. Luther had been ill for a couple of weeks from a severe attack of neuritis, and was seemingly on the road to recovery when death came to him. His death came as a great shock to the members of the family, and word of his passing was heard with much surprise and regret by his many friends. He died at the age of 65 years, 8 months and 19 days. Mr. Luther, a son of the late Martin Luther, Sr., a pioneer settler of this locality, was born August 5, 1870 on a farm within a short distance of the place where he died. As a life long resident of the county he gained a wide acquaintanceship and held the high respect of his friends. Following the life of a farmer, he made a success of this vocation and also that of a live stock raiser. He held several positions of trust in his community and in 1934 was a candidate for the democratic nomination for county supervisor from this district. He was confirmed in the Grace Lutheran church of this place, and later affiliated with the Zion Evangelical church in Winslow and was one of its strongest and most faithful supporters. He also held a membership in the Odd Fellows lodge of Nickerson, and the order held memorial services following the committal services at the grave Tuesday afternoon. He was married to Miss Anna Borcherding June 23, 1893, and they continued to reside on the farm northeast of town. Mrs. Luther died in 1928, and following her death Mr. Luther moved to Fremont. He resided there until 1932 when he returned to the farm and had since made his home there. Surviving him are four daughters and three sons. Mrs. Amelia Forsberg, Uehling; Henry, Hooper; Mrs. Esther Johnsen, Denver; Edward, Fremont; Fred, Wheat Ridge, Colo.; Mrs. Laura Fouts, Hooper, and Mrs. Alta Smith, Denver; 12 grandchildren, three brothers, Edward, Hooper; August, Fremont, and George, Wisner; two sisters, Mrs. Emma Rebbe, Saginaw, Mich., and Carrie, Colfax, Iowa; and seven half brothers and two half sisters, Albert and Karl Luther, Hooper; Richard, Baxter, Iowa; Otto and Walter, Des Moines, Iowa; and John, Clarence, Mrs. Minnie Sinske and Miss Lora Luther, Colfax. Iowa. Under the direction of Wollmer & Warne, his funeral was held Tuesday afternoon with services at 1:45 at the home followed by services at the Evangelical church n Winslow with the pastor, Rev. Milford G. Vance, preaching the words of comfort to the bereaved family, relatives, and many fiends assembled there as a final tribute to the memory of the departed. Rev. Vance was assisted in the services by Rev. Richard Hien of Ithaca, a former pastor at Fremont while Mr. Luther resided in that city. All relatives from a distance came to attend the funeral services, and these with the friends of the deceased filled the church edifice to overflowing. Pall bearers were all nephews of the departed, Edward and Otto Luther of Winslow, Howard, Ernest and Elmer Luther and Howard Meierhenry. Music was furnished by Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Usler and Kenneth and Miss Ruth Sohl, with Mrs. Clarence Hiebenthal as organist. Interment was made in the Hooper cemetery.
