First the mother, Mrs. Martin Flaherty, whose death from pneumonia came as a shock Feb. 4, 1920, a little grand daughter Lu[el]la Flaherty, youngest daughter of John Flaherty of Ayrshire, who died Sunday, Feb. 22, 1920 and lastly the father, Martin Flaherty who has been very ill since the death of his wife. His death came as a shock to many, though it was generally known that he would never recover. Mr. Flaherty is well-known by many of the people of this vicinity having lived on his farm in Lincoln township for a period of about thirty-five years before he moved to Ayrshire, where he has lived for the last four years. Martin Flaherty was born in County Carey, Ireland and died at his home in Ayrshire, Thursday, Feb. [26], 1920 at six o'clock. Deceased was about eighty years of age. He came to America when a young man and here he married Mary Kennedy. To this union were born twelve children, two, William and Patrick having preceded them in death. He leaves to mourn his death, four sons and six daughters: Mrs. P. J. Mo[?]n of Grand Junction; Mrs. James Smith of Curlew; Mrs. E. J. Smith of Estherville; Mrs. Mike Smith of [?]; Mrs. John Miller of McHenry, North Dakota and Anna at home; John of Ayrshire; Martin, Jr. of Curlew; Mike and Matt of Pocahontas and one sister at her home in Ireland. Owing to the condition of the roads the funeral services were held in Ayrshire, Sunday and the remains were then shipped to Gilmore City, Monday morning and interred in Calvary cemetery at Pocahontas, beside those of his wife and two sons, Rev.
