In 1927, he married Lucy Shors in Pocahontas, and they made their home there. He owned and operated several businesses, including Shors and Alexander Grocery, Pocahontas, and Pocahontas Produce, Pocahontas. He also worked several years for the Shimon Auto Co., Pocahontas.
