(Held at Canton, Ohio, 1968.) "Memorial for Martin Brantingham "Yearly Meeting 1967 had just passed when Martin Brantingham, who had been ailing for many months, slipped into a coma and a few hours later went into the presence of the Lord he had loved from his youth and served with his whole life. He was eighty six years old. "Reared in a Conservative Friends home in Marlboro, one of ten children, he early learned the discipline of responsibility and hard work. In his late teens he was converted at a revival meeting in the Alliance Methodist Church. Soon he felt a call to the ministry and began preparation at Asbury College, but transferred to Cleveland Bible Institute, from which he was graduated. "In 1912 [1913] he married Lydia Sherman of Gates Mills, a Friends minister. Together they pastored Selkirk and Rollin, Michigan Friends Churches, and in Ohio—Winona, Peoria, West Mansfield, and Springdale-Georgetown Friends Churches. Martin Brantingham's gift was especially in the realm of personal concern and exhortation, which he correlated with a dedicated prayer-life. Retiring from the pastorate in 1946, the Brantinghams continued to serve wherever needed as long as strength continued. Lydia Brantingham preceded her husband in death by five years. "Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Lowell (Esther) Ewing of Salem, Ohio; four sons, Rev. Paul, pastor of Tecumseh, Michigan; Rev. Sherman of Salem, Ohio, Administrative Assistant tot he General Superintendent of Ohio Yearly Meeting, and Robert and Maynard [Ted] of Winona, Ohio. Of the twenty grandchildren, three are Friends pastors and one a Friends missionary in Taiwan. "Service was held at the Winona Friends Church, conducted by the pastor (a grandson) Rev. David Brantingham, Rev. Chester Stanley, and Dr. Walter Williams on September 2, 1967. " ‘Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.'
