Contact me at kubywinslow at gmail dot com """ L Winslow (FAG member 46875728) April 4, 1929: Martin Capper Dies Martin Capper was born in Lennark, Carroll County, Ill., January 20, 1865, and passed away at his home near Ames, Kansas, at 1:30 A.M. Thursday, March 28, 1929, being at the time of his death, 64 years, 2 months and 8 days old. In 1869 he came with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Capper, to Riley County, Kansas, and one year later they moved to the home near Ames, where he with his parents homesteaded and lived until he passed away. On November 3, 1895, he was united in marriage to Miss Lulu Cox, of Aurora, Kansas, and to this union three children were born, David, of Manhattan, Mary Capper Melcher, of Grace, Idaho, and Velma, of the home. He united with the Methodist Episcopal church at Rice, Kansas, where he was an active member, being at one time the superintendent of the Sunday School and also a teacher of a class. In 1926, he and his family transferred their membership to the First Methodist Episcopal church in Concordia, where as usual, he engaged in active service for the Master and the Church. At the time of his death he was president of the Cloud County Farm Bureau, president of the Pleasant Valley Farmers Union, treasurer of the School District 21, treasurer of the Union Threshing Company, chairman of the Cloud County School Board Council for several years, and also president of the Three Point Camp Association for several years. In 1926, Mr. Capper was the champion wheat grower in Cloud County. His work on the farm was always efficient and was done by modern methods and equipment. He leaves to mourn his departure his loving wife, three children, one brother, Samuel Capper of Dayton, Ohio; one sister, Mrs. Jessie [sic Jennie] Hester of Fort Worth, Texas; one grandchild, Eugene Capper Melcher, and many other relatives and friends. No funeral arrangements have been made.
