Marvel passed away Dec. 25, 2002 at the Imperial Manor where she had resided since March 2001. She had reached the age of 87 years and two weeks. She was the fifth child of eleven. Marvel passed away Dec. 25, 2002 at the Imperial Manor where she had resided since March 2001. She had reached the age of 87 years and two weeks. Marvel attended Empire #60 rural grade school north of Wauneta, Neb. and graduated from Wauneta High School and taught at McCallum, Hillcrest and Chase grade schools in rural Chase County for five years. Marvel Wheeler married Fred Miller in 1939 and they lived on the family farm until 1988 when they moved to Imperial. Marvel was active in her community and in her children's lives. She served on committees at District 66 and the Community Center. She was a 4-H leader for many years, taught Sunday School and Bible School and influenced many young lives. She was active in the Women's Society for Christian Service Organization on a local and district level. She was a member of Chase Evangelical United Brethren Church until it closed in 1963. She was a member of Lamar Evangelical United Brethren (Trinity United Methodist) Church until it's closure in 1999 and Imperial Methodist church. She canvassed for the Chase County Census and wrote District 66 news for the Imperial Republican for several years. She never knew a stranger and was always willing to help anyone in need. She was the organizer of many activities for the Wheeler and Miller families. Marvel was preceded in death by her husband, Fred, one year ago. She is survived by son Kent Miller and wife Nancy of Lamar; daughters Gloria Patrick and husband Ron of Grant, Ilene Wieder and husband Al of Littleton, Colo., Kathy Cook and husband Dave of Lamar; 11 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. The last great grandchild was named Lyric Marvel after her great grandmother. She is also survived by brothers Carroll Wheeler and wife Mary of Greeley, Colo., Don Wheeler and wife Lillian of Crescent, Iowa, Gerald Wheeler and wife Frieda of Louisville, KY., Wesley Wheeler and wife Marjorie of Wauneta and one sister, ValJean Soper and husband Harry of Onset, Mass.; brothers-in-law Averill Hudnall of Imperial, Esther Harvey of Holyoke and Inez Ball of Pleasant Hill, Ill., and many nieces and nephews. Services for Marvel were held Dec., 30, 2002 at the United Methodist Church in Imperial with Pastor Murray Schmechel officiating. Piano music was provided by Mr. J. Gordon Christensen. Congregational singing of Christmas carols were sung as Marvel loved to sing the carols and she passed away on Christmas day. Casketbearers were Christene Kneubuhl, Dan Miller, Terri Miller, Miguel Patrick, Christina Tovar, Trent Patrick, Rik Patrick, Lynne Lovejoy, Jenifer Wieder, Steffanie Hughes and Bradley Cook. All are grandchildren of Marvel. Interment was at Chase Cemetery with Liewer Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. " Imperial Republican Jan 2002
