A shot had been heard on Wednesday and the men... Read More	Highland Recorder December 20, 1940 DOE Hill: Marvin McCoy Dead Marvin Forest McCoy, aged 29 years 9 months and 11 days died December 11. He had not been well for a few days and had been worried about his health and other disappointments. He slipped away from home shortly after ten o'clock Wednesday morning. A search was made by the family in the afternoon but on their failure to locate him, a general alarm was given Thursday morning. A party of more than a score was made up, headed by sheriff Hess. A shot had been heard on Wednesday and the men searched in the direction of the shot. The body was found laying beside a tree with the gun pointed against his breast. He had fired a fatal shot through his heart. The body was found about one half mile south of the home approximately twenty four hours after death. How heavy his heart must have been that morning as he slipped away from his father and mother and walked out alone into the arms of the dreaded reality of death. The sympathy of all goes out to the family. It also reminds us to drop a few roses in the path and give some encouragement to our less fortunate brother along life's way. Marvin is survived by his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. J.E. McCoy, three brothers, Lester and Bryan, at home and Morris of McDowell; two sisters, Mrs. Olgie Lowery of Winchester and Mrs. Ray Vandevander of Doe Hill. Funeral services were held from the Doe Hill Methodist church Saturday morning at 11 o'clock by Rev. W.P. Saunders. Highland Recorder December 13, 1940 DOE HILL YOUTH SHOT As we go to press we learn of the death from a gun shot wound of Marvin Forest McCoy of the Doe Hill community. The accident occurred Wednesday morning when McCoy left his home supposedly on a hunting trip. On his failure to return to his home in the evening a search was made. His body was found this morning (Thursday) leaning against a tree where, according to the coroner’s inquest, he had shot himself. An examination of the body showed that the bullet had entered the lower part of the heart causing almost instant death.
