The son of CK and Edna Johnson Butts, he was born July 25, 1929, at Maddock, N.D. He spent his childhood in Devil's Lake, N.D. He attended college at Devil's Lake Junior College, where he lettered in football and was inducted into their Hall of Fame. He spent his adult life in Emporia. He married Aillein Davis on Dec. 1, 2007, at Shawnee. She survived at the Emporia Presbyterian Manor. Mr. Butts was a member of the First Congregational Church. He also was a member of the Emporia Country Club and a pilot of his own airplane. He is also survived by two daughters, Janice Butts of Shawnee and Gail Lohmeyer of Osage City; one son, Phil Adamson of Burden; two stepdaughters, Lisa Longcor and Kelley Dial, both of Emporia; two brothers, Kermit Butts of Camus, Wash., and Duane Butts of Minot, N.D.; three sisters, Mavis Reirson-Cross of Fargo, N.D., Joan Meirby of Seattle, Wash., and Erlys Norberg of Sun City, Ariz.; 11 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. His wife of more than 40 years, Geraldine McConnell Butts, died earlier. The memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church. Mr. Butts was cremated. The Rev. Harvey Foyle of the First united Methodist Church will conduct the services. Memorial contributions to the Beta Sigma Phi Heart Fund may be sent in care of the Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home.
