Schulte Thelen, 69, died suddenly at 3 p.m. Monday of a heart attack while sitting in her chair listening to the radio. For several years Mrs. Thelen had been afflicted with heart disease, having been forced to give up her household duties two years ago because of poor health. For a year she had divided the time among the homes of her children, but for the past year she had lived with Mrs. Maggie Schieisman in Lidderdale. Sunday she seemed to be in unusually good health. With the exception of her son, Raymond, all of her children living in this community visited her that day. Monday afternoon, Raymong came in to see her. While she was vising with him and listening to the story over the radio, death suddenly claimed her. The body was taken at 4 o'clock Tuesday afternoon from the Gregory Funeral Home to the home of her son, Sylvester Thelen, on the old home place, where it will rest until the hour of the services. Rites will be held at 9 o'clock Friday morning at Holy Family church, Lidderdale, with the Rev. Lawrence Schoeppner officiating, and burial will be beside her husband in the family lot in the parish cemetery. Mrs. Thelen was born Mary A. Schulte, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Schulte, at Rockford, Ill., Dec. 9, 1869. When she was five years old she came with her parents to a farm two miles north of Breda in Sac County. Nov. 7, 1894, at St. Bernard's Church in Breda she became the bride of John F. Thelen. Mr. and Mrs. Thelen spent the first few years of their married life in Nebraska, coming from there to Carroll County about the year 1900 to live on their farm near Auburn. Eighteen years ago they retired and moved to Lidderdale, where they were living when Mr. Thelen died Mar. 14, 1930. Mrs. Thelen was a member of Holy Family Church of Lidderdale and the Altar Society of the parish. She died well fortified with the rites of her church. Surviving are five children: Mrs. John Daiker (Caroline), Auburn; Sylvester Thelen, Carroll; Mrs. Otto Subbert (Ella), Jolley; Mrs. Lawrence Janning (Mildred), Austin, Minn., and Raymond Thelen, Glidden; twenty-nine grandchildren; one great grandson; one sister, Mrs. Lottie Magner of Lake View, and five brothers: George Schulte, Emery, S.D.; Frank Schulte, Lake City; Lute Schulte, Sac City; Tony Schulte, Auburn; and Phillip Schulte, Armstrong. She was preceded in death by three children: George, Elnora and Leonard, who died while the family lived in Nebraska, and a brother and sister, Joe and Ella Schulte.
