She was 76 years old. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at Trout Funeral Home Chapel at 10:00 am with Pastor Tom Short, officiating. Burial will then take place at Eureka Cemetery in Eureka, KS. Services are held under the direction of Trout Funeral Home and Crematory. Mary Ada was born to Ira and Mary Cooper in Climax, KS., July 10, 1935. She grew up and attended school in Climax and Eureka, KS. She worked many jobs over her lifetime, working as a school cook and later as a courier for Red Rock Petroleum. She also worked various volunteer positions along with her roles as Wife, Mother, Grandmother, and Friend. Mary was married to her high school sweetheart, Ben Owens on September 30, 1951. They enjoyed almost 61 years of loving marriage together. In the 1950's Mary gave birth to both her children and in the 1970's and 1980's she gained all of her grandchildren. In 1986 Mary and her husband Ben retired from working life. After being retired for some time they decided to live on the road in their R.V. together, traveling and visiting were among Mary's favorite thing to do. They traveled for several years before settling in Kaw City, OK. After living in Kaw for several more years, Ben and Mary went back on the road. Once they were ready to settle down again, the couple moved to Ponca City, where they lived until August 2011, when they moved to a retirement community in Guthrie, OK. Mary loved to cook and feed the ones she loved and often would volunteer cook for the homeless shelter in Ponca City. Volunteering was important to Mary, along with her work with the homeless, she gave her time to Hospice of North Central Oklahoma, Ponca City Chamber of Commerce and Christian Radio Station. She loved the outdoors and being active, always taking walks, going fishing, and camping. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; Sister, Joan VanHaverbeke; Brothers, Jim Cooper and Gus Cooper. She is survived by her husband, Ben Owens of Guthrie, OK; Sister, Patsy Armstrong of Derby, KS; Brother Jack Cooper of El Dorado, KS; Brother, Mike Cooper of El Dorado, KS; Her two children, Jerry Owens and wife Jane of Oklahoma City and Susan Adkins of Ponca City; Five Grandchildren, Angela, Stacy, Joshua, Jason, and Alyssa; Great Grandchildren, Kerry, Anthony, Dakota, Savanna, Santana, and Oliver. Along with numerous nieces, nephews, and countless friends all around the country. Mary was loved very much and will be missed tremendously. Memorial donations may be made in her name to Oak Grove Baptist Church, PO Box 96, Kaw City, OK 74641. __________ Mary Owens, former resident of Ponca City, passed away on Saturday, June 23, 2012 at Integris Baptist Church in Oklahoma City.
