Joan first married George Arthur Mattingly on September 3, 1948, in Eureka, Greenwood County, Kansas. George Arthur was born April 30, 1927, in Neal, Greenwood County, Kansas, the son of Arthur Calving Mattingly and his first wife Icie Maud Fluharty. George Arthur and Joan had one son and one daughter. George Arthur died March 11, 1986, in Shawnee Mission, Johnson County, Kansas. Joan then married David Francis VanHaverbeke on April 23, 1988, in Overland Park, Johnson County, Kansas. David was born July 15, 1928, in Eureka, Greenwood County, Kansas, the son of Francis Fortune Leopold and Jessie Ellen (Byrnes) VanHaverbeke. He had been previously married and had five children. David died April 23, 2012, in Overland Park, Johnson County, Kansas. Joan died June 3, 2012, in Overland Park, Johnson County, Kansas. Joan was born on Sept. 28, 1930, in Climax, Kan., the daughter of Ira and Mary (Cross) Cooper. She was raised in Climax and attended school in Eureka graduating in 1948. After graduation, she married George Mattingly in Eureka, Kan., and they moved to Overland Park. Joan then went to work for the IRS as a tax examiner for 20 years. George preceded her in death in 1986. She married David VanHaverbeke in 1988. He preceded her in death in 2012. She was a member of the Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church. She is survived by her children, D. Randall VanHaverbeke of Flagstaff, Ariz., Denise VanHaverbeke of Canon City, Colo., Mark VanHaverbeke of Lincoln, Neb., Karen VanHaverbeke of Canon City, Georganna Meyer of Chandler, Ariz., and Gary Mattingly of Dublin, Calif.; five grandchildren, Lewis Hyatt, David VanHaverbeke, Hannah Meyer, Samuel Meyer, and Caitlyn Dennis; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Ada Owens of Oklahoma City, Okla.; and Patsy Armstrong of Wichita; brothers, Jack and Mike Cooper of El Dorado. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, and daughter, Amy L. VanHaverbeke. Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Wednesday, June 6, at Koup Family Funeral Home with Seminarian Tim Meyer officiating. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, in Eureka. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to the Parkinson's Foundation of the Heartland.
